My New Laptop - PCS Review

PRODUCT Overview – 10/10

I have to give this not so small laptop a ten out of ten and this is why !

Under the hood of this not so small 17 inch Optimus chassis is a Clevo N170SD mainboard boasting the powerful Intel's Quad Core i7-4720HQ processor, 8 GB of Kingston DDR3 RAM, NVIDIA's GTX 960M, 120GB KINGSTON Solid State Drive and 1TB ATA HARD DRIVE.

On top of all that powerful hardware neatly packed into the slim chassis there was still room for a DVD/BLUE-RAY drive. Wicked !!

This Chassis is not light but since I don’t intend moving it around much I don’t mind that too much. It looks and feels good and solid. It has a backlit keyboard with number pad and the speakers are along the top of the keyboard. Under the chassis are the fans which I think can not be heard when just doing normal web browsing and stuff. I can hear a slight whir as the fans kick in when doing graphic intensive stuff but nothing that distracts me. The gunmetal gray colour might not be appealing to flashy avid gamers but what it packs under the hood most definitely will !

The model I chose has 8 gig of DDR3 RAM in one stick. From what I understand the Clevo mainboard has two slots for RAM so it should be easy to upgrade to 16 Gig. However, for my needs 8 GB is just dandy and its pretty powerful and responsive. From what I read it is doubtful that upgrading to 16 GB RAM would increase performance significantly. The performance and speed is already great from the i7-4720HQ and the SDD

I opted to spend a little more and I added a solid state drive. The laptop I used when I booted up windows 7 I could go and make a cup of tea while I waited for everything to load. With this Kingston Drive it has loaded to the password screen in a blink of the eye and it takes only a few seconds more toiload windows 10 and all the apps . Very Pleased

Graphics
This machine has a GeForce GTX 960M graphics card by NVIDIA. the card supports DirectX 12.0. NVIDIA say the GeForce GTX 960M can be used for gaming with highest details at resolutions up to, and including, 1680x1050. From what I read on forums its not a top of the range GPU but it certainly pleases me and for the price its ideal ! I dont really play extreme demanding games so I cant comment. However, I love the way I have less lag, great draw distance and beautiful colours in Second Life.

PRODUCT 10/10
So over all I dont think anyone choosing this build will be disappointed. It might not be a high end gaming laptop but for a mid-range and reasonably priced it certainly pack a powerful punch. I certainly am pleased with it so Im giving this a product ten thumbs up.

CUSTOMER SERVICE 10/10

This is the second machine I have purchased from PC Specialist. I had a desktop that had a few problems and in the end had to be returned. PCS were brilliant. I can say if a component fails they replace it within a day! I have to say that although I had a negative experience with hardware on the desk top it was the 100% impressive customer service that made me go and purchase again from PC Specialist. If things go wrong they are on the end of UK based phone not based off shore where accents are difficult to understand. Communication when you order is amazing. They keep you informed of your order and the stages of your build via email. These guys are professional, helpful, and the best :rockon::rockon:
