Much difference between 8gb and 16gb RAM?

In Laptop config... is there much difference between them? Whether in gaming or general use? What difference can I expect if I spend a bit more and get 16gb of RAM? Thanks.

I have just the link for you: http://www.techspot.com/article/1043-8gb-vs-16gb-ram/page3.html

So you can get away with 8gb. However, if you game with lots of tabs and other programs open, it will apparently take a bit longer to tab between things if you've maxed out your 8gb, and some higher end games are starting to look towards 16gb as a recommendation. Given that RAM is relatively in expensive, you may as well get the extra if any of the above seems to apply to you.

As far as I'm aware 16gb is more than enough for any game. They all vary on how much resources they use. It would mainly depend on how much the difference is to your budget or if you would like to upgrade further down the line. I'd say 8gb of DDR4 ram should be enough for your system.

I was getting RAM warnings on my PC the other day with Chrome, Utorrent, JDownloader and a music app open. I had quite a few tabs open (maybe a dozen) and it came up.

Times have moved on, 16GB is the base now IMO.

I agree I wouldn't have less now especially with games looking for more and more ram

I believe the hyperx impact has lower latency, and so should be faster. It probably won't have much impact on performance in most cases, though the cost difference is pretty marginal.

It has always been true, and will continue to be true, that you should buy as much RAM as you can afford. If 16GB is within your budget then buy it.

I just updated my rig from 8GB to 16GB and although things like frame-rate (not that i was expecting anything like that) are not improved the system does seem more stable, less random freezes or jitters. This is purely from a gaming perspective though. The Titan X(p) says 16GB Ram required so i just did the upgrade. Tested it on the Witcher 3 and GTAV and my Average Frames went up by about 5fps and my Firestrike scores increased 1%
