Mortal Online

Anyone playing this? I found out about it yesterday, and although not really any decent footage on youtube, the idea of it sounds like it is an really awesome game. Its an MMORPG but its in 1st person. Everything is player driven like economy etc, you can great guilds and build cities etc, have wars, you can attack people whenever you want. Once a boss is dead, its dead forever. Basically they've made the game as free as possible.

I think i'll be giving it a try end of the month!

I assume it's this. It looks fairly good and sounds interesting but it is most likely another generic MMO and £14.95 a month is rather steep.

Yeah that's the link, ill bang it in my first post.

But I dunno Gishank, this one sounds like it could actually be something different imo. I'd like to think so anyway, It's about time something came along that reeled me in as much as WoW used too!

This might be a better overview of the game

Mortal online hmmm...

It is in no way a "generic" Mmorpg .

I was a beta tester and left soon before it whent "gold"
as they updated the grass models and my poor lil 8400gs could not handle it any more :(

Considering its made by an indie company (star vault) it is amazing quality
the crafting allone is a game thousands of way to create the same item (weaker-stronger-looks)
thats....

Armor (soft-chain-heavy)
you have to experiment with diffrent materials to find best combinations for armor

Wepons (bows-spear-poleAxe-dagger-mace-swords-axe)
same as above but for wepons diffrent woods metals amounts

then there is mining-extraction
again having to find the best ingridients to combine then find the best "machines" to get precious metals

fishing
diffrent rods locations- diffrent fish

House-fort construction (self explanitory)

there is alchemy butchering map making boats and many more
all in the works to be made

You have the usall stats
str
cons
psy
etc

that will only take around 3days to skill up

then you have primary ones such as crafter fighter sorcerer etc
that you skill up via related Actions and or reading books

all very quick to get into the thick of the action honestly

The game really is skilled based (not like other Mmos claim to be)

there is no in-game world map at all... map making skill we be available later.
makes exploring feel worthwhile.

theres no general world chat ie /1 /2 etc only local area
stops all the silly (racist chuck norris pie) crap you get in all other mmo's
but then it is an 18+ game and most players are adult

upon logging in you are dumped in the harbour town of meduli
with nothing but Rags for clothes and a starter Axe
no tutorial no quests no help (be a man!)

there is only a small menu to acces by pressing H this will tell you the most basic of actions

If you can get past your first 3 hrs in mortal online your suited to the games style.
which is "Hardcore" <--lol

first person view only rmb lmb attack and defend
apart from sorcerers (most magic requires a stationary position 2-3 sec and requires consumables expensive!)

die in world you "drop" your inventory 5 min to reclaim it before it vanishes.
and thats if no one picks it up ;-)

PvP full loot mechanics allso

there is an anti grief system of sorts via the "red flag" status
if a player kills enough people he gets a small red shield by his name he losses skill points if killed and canot enter "safe" towns at all
the more he kills the longer he stays red.

with all that said it can be buggy but you cant blame a small indie firm can you ? :0

my suggestion would be to wait a month maybe 2 as there having a major patch soon.tm
which is meant to improve whats ingame allready.
but will likely break allot to :D

but sigh i cant play atm like i said 8400gs is a pants card hahah (and its dead now any way!)

Oh and hi im new to forums :-/

Welcome bud, cheers for all the info, I have read alot of reviews, alot being bad, some being good, but I think it's mainly due to the playing style, and alot of people dont like a hardcore game, definatly gunna give it a go, but like you said, give it a few months first :)
