More PSU'S

I built the most power hungry machine I could the other day and I only managed 1021W... errrr

unless your running quad sli or absolute monster pc`s with custom water cooling loops which pcs dont offer you wont need anything over 1050w really. Theres only 1 or 2 psu`s thats worth getting over 1200w and the one id go for is a enermax 1500w which pcs wont ever really use, the corsair ax1200i psu they offer is overboard but its a very nice psu i havent dropped below 92% eff if i can only get the link software working properly.

Meh, I'd just like to see the addition ya' know? Future-Proofing and all..

But if no-one is going to order it, there is no point, it would mean PCS having to get stock in for it when they wouldn't be able to shift it, even if a couple of people wanted it, that's not enough to justify ordering it in.

I'm not sure excessive PSU's counts as futureproofing :)

Noting of course that I don't work for PCS, and these are just my thoughts, but they seem reasonable thoughts to me.

how is that future proofing btw? if anything its the opposite, power draw drops dramatically every time new hardware comes out you had to have 1200w for gtx 580`s in sli, doubt you even need 1000w to sli 680`s.

I've got a 1050w for my spec (in sig) note the 580's, I strictly needed a 1050w power supply, but if i was to build a similar rig with 680s instead I would only need at max an 850w psu. which is pretty cool to be honest. Hopefully the next 700 series will be more power/energy efficient.

no they wont the whole point of our current technology is to do more with less the way new hardware works is by making smaller transistors that use less power, silicone is the current chip and has been for decades but they are getting to the point where making the chips smaller is becoming hard but as carbon chips are being looked at now which in theory should be able to be made alot smaller "Moore`s Law" still seems like its going to hold up.

less? I think the GTX 590 consumes more power than the GTX 690.
Indeed it does

I apparently fail at posting pics so the link is here http://www.hwcompare.com/12676/geforce-gtx-590-vs-geforce-gtx-690/

+1 To Moore's Law (and everything else, but yeah... Moore's Law)

I'm beginning to think this guy is a troll. Every thread I read now is created by him and they always turn into some absurd debate.
If you're referring to Mango,I don't think he's a troll,not intentionally anyway.Far as I know he's only 12 years old,so maybe fair to allow for his enthusiasm.:)

I've never come across a 12 year old who puts PSU's on the top of his problem list. Or one that gets £4500 to spend on a gaming rig to play with his friends. That's just me though!

:( People think I'm a troll now :(

Don't worry, it's fine!

Erm, my opinion is power consumption will decrease. Appliances are getting more and more power efficient. Look in PCs, CPUs...IB vs SB, the 6xx series vs the 5xx series. All power decreasing. As for where CPU's are headed. I don't think you'll see silicon around for too much longer! My bet is you'll end up with graphene based CPUs soon! I spent some time in the cambridge uni labs shadowing/working with someone who was working with graphene. What they do is really phenominal! Graphene is one atom thick...you can't get much smaller than that ;) ! The problem is electric current doesn't always go in a straight line, you get some electrons doing circles and stuff...which is what causes the problems! Also, I don't think there is a manufacturing process that can use these materials yet to their full potential. However, I'm sure it will come eventually!
