Monitor Problem - Samsung Syncmaster SA450 24"

Hi

I ordered a PC five months ago from PC Specialist (number 541150)

I've noticed that my monitor brightness (Samsung Syncmaster SA450 24") is lighter at the bottom. See the photo of the limes numbered 1, 2 & 3.

Lime number 1 is slightly darker to lime number 3.

Is there any solutions to this brightness problem?

In a couple of months I may buy a new monitor, can any one recommend a good 24" or bigger monitor?

Thanks

Jonathan

Unfortunately this is the problem with TN panel monitors, they have poor viewing angles (even sat infront of them) and they do not have even light spread or colour distribution hence why they are not recommended for any colour critical work or productivity tasks.

Obviously they can still be used for these tasks but they will be inferior to an equivalent IPS panel which are designed to have even light and colour spread.

Edit: Saying that, I don't own a Samsung TN panel so I don't know how much help this Magic Angle can be. Could be worth a shot.

Hi

Grimezy

How good is your 24" Benq XL2411T 144hz 1ms 3D-ready monitor with viewing angles?

It's not great to be honest, it's pretty shoddy when I look at images and the colours don't really pop out at me. When I watch films I have to be directly infront of it otherwise it's pretty much a black screen (it's not too bad sat side on but the vertical angles are appalling).

Gaming isn't TOO bad, but I do notice that my screen is darker in a lot of places compared to the middle which is a bit disappointing at times. I noticed it quite a bit playing Tomb Raider during missions set at night and I also tried Minecraft briefly for the first time last night and it was dark and I could barely see a thing. Definitely going to have a more in-depth look to see if there's anything I can do to make it better but I do think it could be TN panel related rather than something in the settings. I know a couple of other guys have my monitor though and they have no complaints so I dunno. I seem to have to adjust the tilt quite a bit just to try and brighten up the dark areas.

I have the above setup and although the viewing angles aren't brilliant, I don't find them nearly as bad as you do.

Cheers Alex, I'll try them when I get in. Do you know what Gamma you use as well? I think I have mine set to 5.

I probably make mine sound worse than they are but considering I use a TN panel at work with no issues whatsoever I can find mine at home quite disappointing on certain images and stuff. I only really notice it on dark screens as well, I should probably try turning my in-game brightness up a bit in future; that was the problem with minecraft last night, it was set to 'Moody' brightness rather than 'Bright'! No wonder I couldn't see a thing.

I got the S24C450B a few weeks ago and tend to use the "standing up" setting, even when sitting down, and tilt the screen forwards/downwards or upwards/backwards to suit where I am. That can mean also increasing or reducing the height of the stem(?) stalk thingy. Or are you saying that the monitor was good but has deteriorated in the time you've had it? Me not clever enough to understand how parts of the screen could fade over time, so I'm out on that. I can see the difference of course in your screen shots but I can get mine to do that just by tilting the screen.
