monitor or gpu problem?

i have 2 thin black lines running across the bottom of my monitor like ========== but obviously no spaces, the bottom one blinks bolder then top one does same then both go off then repeat cycle every sec or so, i tried taking a screenshot but the lines didn't show up which a bit of google searching suggests a monitor issue but a few also say it could be a gpu issue.
not sure how long it's been happening as i haven't played games for a while and the lines are mostly hidden by the taskbar, but very noticeable when you do play a game.
monitor is msi g274qpf-qd quad hd 27 quantum dot gaming monitor.

things i have tried- updated nvidia driver, tried a different dp cable, not able to try a different monitor as i don't have a spare one.

I believe you have a PC with a 7800X3D in, so you could try one final test to check it's not the GPU...by connecting the monitor to the DP/HDMI port at the top of the motherboard.

Do the lines show up during boot?

If the monitor still shows those lines no matter what port you've use, what video out you've used, or all the way through the boot process too, then it's likely to be the monitor.

the lines do show up as the pc is booting up,very faintly but they are there, would it be worth buying an hdmi cable to test or is it more likely to be a panel issue?

ok thanks for the replies, final question,i've been looking at new pc monitors but hard to find g-sync ones.(in my price range)freesync monitors are plentiful typically so my question would be is g-sync compatible and adaptive sync decent? i know they aren't as good as pure g-sync but do they work as such?

What price range are you looking in? All of those options are going to be very similar in performance today: there's no longer much of a difference between them so you can feel comfortable buying any of them.

Freesync is software driven by the driver
GSync is hardware driven by a module.

GSync and Freesync perform much the same nowadays which is why you don't find many GSync monitors anymore as the GSync module adds over £100 to the cost for almost no benefit.

GSync compatible is freesync that Nvidia have tested themselves and found to be worthy of the Nvidia branding.

ah so i can buy a freesync monitor and it will perform pretty much the same as one with g-sync? that gives a lot more options then because 80% of monitors i looked at had freesync or adaptive sync,my budget isn't the best at the moment what with running a house and bills etc but would £200-300 buy a good/decent monitor?
i did see a few uw 32" monitors at around £250 but they were brands like koorui and gawfolk which tbh i have never heard of.

Depends what warranty you bought from them. If that's run out then it would be with MSI, if that's run out then you'd need to replace it

This is personally what I'd recommend for 1440p: https://www.currys.co.uk/products/a...-mini-led-gaming-monitor-black-10265220.html?

Or Ultrawide 3440 x 1440: https://www.currys.co.uk/products/a...curved-va-gaming-monitor-black-10258011.html?

Both VA panels, but they're both very good VA panels.

Well it kind of depends. For this price (in fact, for most prices!) you're going to be making compromises and choosing what's best for you. VA panels are great for contrast (and the ones @SpyderTracks links are great ones). But they come with the classic VA downsides: poor viewing angles, relatively poor colour accuracy, and poor pixel response times between dark colours, known as "dark level smearing".

If you're in a dark room, or in a very light room, VA is probably a great bet. If you play fast-paced games like first-person shooters, you might want to look at something with inherently better performance like an IPS.

I use a VA panel myself (mainly because they used to have a major price advantage) but it suits my uses fine. Unless you like really fast-paced stuff, I'd go with the 1440p AOC display linked above because the brightness is genuinely amazing, and that'll probably make up for any defects in motion clarity. But, ultimately, it's all depending!
