Monitor connectivity

I've just taken delivery of my new PCS PC and need some advice please.

I have the option of plugging my monitor into the motherboard integrated graphics socket or the Geforce graphics card socket on the I/O back plate. Which should I use? And does it make any difference?

Case
COOLERMASTER HAF-X FULL TOWER GAMING CASE
Processor (CPU)
Intel® Core™i7-2600 Quad Core (3.40GHz, 8MB Cache) + HD Graphics
Motherboard
ASUS® P8Z68-V PRO: USB 3.0, SATA 6GB/s, NVIDIA®SLI™, ATI®CrossFireX™Memory (RAM)
8GB SAMSUNG DDR3 DUAL-DDR3 1333MHz (2 X 4GB)
Graphics Card
1.25GB NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 570 - 2 DVI, HDMI, DP - 3D Vision Ready

If I plug into the GTX570 does the LucidLogix Virtu still utilise the onboard graphics if it needs to?
Asus's web site says
"Universal Switchable Graphics Technology
LucidLogix® Virtu is designed for the Intel® Sandy Bridge platform's powerful integrated graphics. Its GPU virtualization dynamically assigns tasks to the best available graphics resources based on power, performance and system load on Windows® 7 based PCs. It allows users to fully utilize the unique capabilities of advanced Sandy Bridge multimedia features alongside the high end 3D rendering performance provided by installed graphics cards. When no discrete graphics are needed, the graphics card is put in idle mode to lower utilization, heat, fan speed and power draw down to near zero, making the system more environmentally-friendly. For users with diverse needs, LucidLogix® Virtu GPU virtualization provides great flexibility and efficiency. "

I presume it would still use the onboard graphics when it powered down the graphics card, but to be honest I don't know how it works, but if you plug the cable into the one of the motherboard rather than the graphics card I suspect it just wouldn't use the graphics card at all.

Note: I could be horribly wrong!

To use LucidLogix Virtu i believe you need to connect your monitor to motherboard port.
check this out.

Thanks vanthus for the link. It does indeed sound like I need to connect it to the motherboard port. Presumably I'll still reep all the benefits of having the Geforce card? I'll put the question to PCS and post the answer here unless anyone else can answer this in the meantime.

Just done some more checking mate check Chapter 5 in your motherboard guide it gives you all the info you need to set up your LucidLogix. See some info below.

You can actually use either port for this set up but you need to install the software first. You should have a drivers CD inside your package from PCS. Install this and then depending on which mode you run depends where you plug your monitor to.

I-Mode
To use LucidLogix Virtu in i-mode display must always be connected to Sandy Bridge Motherboard Video Output

D-Mode
To use LucidLogix Virtu in i-mode display must always be connected to GPU installed in the system.

d-mode is recommended and provides enhanced 3d gaming performance.

Many thanks gavcor. I did have a quick flick through the guide yesterday but obviously missed this. I'll take another look.

Gavcor its a good job you gave me the link to the online manual you saw because Chapter 5 in my printed manual doesn't mention anything about utilising both the integrated and discrete graphics cards and using the LucidLogix.

Interestingly when I fired up my new pc tonight for the first time, I'd plugged my monitor into the integrated graphics port and nothing was displayed on my screen! When I plugged it into the Geforce card, the screen came to life! I'll go take a look at the link you sent me.

BTW I asked PCS whether if I plugged the monitor into the Geforce card, whether LucidLogix would still make use of the integrated graphics on the motherboard as well, their reply was "LucidLogix Virtu platform will make use of both Integrated graphics and installed graphics card."

If anybody is interested, I'll report back my findings.
