Migrating Contents of One Hard Drive to Another

Hey,

So I recently ordered a laptop which arrived yesterday. Opened the box, all good all happy.

Only problem is the OS has been installed onto the wrong hard drive.

The setup is basically Windows 10
1st M.2 SSD Drive 256GB (which is empty)
2nd M.2 SSD Drive 512GB (OS etc...)

Is there any way I can migrate the whole contents (as in an exact copy of everything) of the 2nd drive onto the 1st without having to reinstall Windows 10 and drivers etc?

A quick google yesterday basically lead me to third party tools, which I'm not to keen to do/use.
I was hoping windows 10 would have some built in functionality for this. (I'm not too familiar with the OS)

Any advise or help would be greatly appreciated.
(also at this point all I have done is turned it on and the basic OS setup - nothing further, it's not even connected to the internet yet)

Use Macrium Reflect. It's free, and safe. Windows doesn't have such a thing as far as I know.

Also, what are the 2 drives you have ordered, and why did you order 1 small and 1 slightly larger M.2 SSD?

They're both SX600 but actually the write speed is slightly slower on the smaller one 1200 vs 1500 on the bigger one.
The idea had been OS and programs/work stuff on the smaller one. Games on the bigger one. Then I was going to add a mechanical HDD for general storage later down the line when needed.

Hmm I will have to look at that

Dividing things between relatively small drives is hassle, because you end up spending a lot of time juggling space. If you already spent ~£110 on 750GB total SSD storage it would have made a lot more sense to just get a single 1TB SSD for ~£50 more. Or to get a 1TB Intel 660p for about £10 more than your selection. Or to stick with a single 500gb SSD and keep the other M.2 slot free for another upgrade down the line.

I'd probably suggest returning it for a refund and going with a fresh spec, as the minor hassle and cost of that will probably be better than the overall hassle of juggling between drives. Plus it saves you the bother of cloning the SSD.

So, just an update to this.

I got my laptop back 2 days ago, now with a 1TB M.2, and an issue I had with the keyboard fixed. It was a slow process, but it is done now and in terms of actual communication with PC Specialist, other than 1 misunderstanding (which was easily solved), it was a simple process talking to friendly real people.

Thanks for the advice!

(I do now have a new issue, but I'll make a new thread about that if I cant find a solution on the forum somewhere with a quick search)

So...you now have a single 1TB SSD and you no longer have the two smaller SSDs? The issue in this thread is thus resolved, correct?
