Hi, I've received my wonderful notebook (17.3 Vortex). Have been on it for 12 hrs now! Well a whole lotta learning experience, & downloading some progs, photos (big files), (haven't got to downloading my own progs yet). Anyhow, with all the discs I received -Power DVD 10;DeviceDrivers & Utilities+user's manual and Clevo P1X0SM Windows 7 (albeit I've got 8!) Drivers - do I need to install them? I have installed the manual & windows 8 updated 58+files. Thankyou x
I've called my notebook 'maynard' as it will be economically wise....John Maynard KEYNES x
I have a 120+ SSD & 750 HDD (7200) - do you think I should partition for recovery? I do backup onto a seperate drive (albeit just files)?

All necessary drivers will already be installed, but you can check for any updates if you want from the Clevo website (model number will be on back of laptop)
http://www.clevo.com.tw/en/e-services/download.asp
and the Graphics driver from manufacturers website,AMD or Nvidia.
thx vanthus :D I'm sure they would have been already installed, & necessary updates would be automatic (with my acceptance). mmm I noticed 'nvidia or hdd shortcut' on the 'desktop' - I've left it alone as I'm still trying to get to grips with the win 8 page! I somehow managed to 'rid' the desktop of the 'ie'! (I know how I did it...) It's just that this is the 1st 'laptop' build, & a tad tentative (due to some threads), altho' I know I'll be fine... I appreciate your help. :D

You should also have a disk saying Driver manuals and utilities. This is your Windows 8 driver disk.

Hi, regarding your question about building a recovery partition. Making this bootable such as those that commercial laptops come with is not a trivial task. You're far better taking regular images of your system partition (and the Reserved Partition if you have one). You can do that from Windows (Control Panel, Recovery) but I use a free product called Macrium Reflect which is a lot more customisable and has more features. It writes out a compressed image (as a single file) of all selected partition to an external drive of your choice. It's highly recommended for regular system backups. It's saved my bacon on more than one occasion. :)

Do I have to install it all? I do have a disc that says drivers for win7.

If you installed your own operating system and it's windows8,you will probably need to install drivers how I suggested in post 2,as your supplied driver disk is for windows7 drivers ?
If you bought the operating system from PCS,drivers will already be installed (check in device manager)unless you reinstalled the operating system.
If you don't have internet access from the laptop, download them from another computer and store the drivers on a USB stick.
