Well i just ran some games, it said 120 fps in bf3, but then i made some tweaks to set it to my monitor's max fps in nivida control panel, now it's only 60 FPS. so that's the max fps ill ever get in a game?

Some games are more demanding on the gpu than others, depends on the game and the settings you choose.

Thats VSync turned on, that means it maximises the frame rate to what your monitor can reproduce, you would have not been able to see all the 120 frames as the monitor would only be processing 60 of them, Vsync prevents tearing in games and keeps your GPU cooler as its not always working to its full potential as it doesn't need to

I changed the settings to these. are they good? what would you change?

'Multi-display/mixed-GPU acceleration' to 'Single display performance mode' 'Triple buffering' to 'On' and 'Vertical sync' to 'Adaptive'.

Do remember one thing about trying to get the max FPS, once you get over 60fps a lot of people can't really see the difference anyways. so I shouldn't get too fixated on trying to get really high FPS numbers :)
