Malwarebytes causing PC to freeze

Hi

I reinstalled Malwarebytes today.

Some times it completes a scan, other times the PC freezes during Heuristic Analysis.

What other software is available to scan for malware?

I assume you mean the free on-demand scanner only and not the full real-time product? If you already have a real-time anti-virus scanner it's essential when installing Malewarebytes that you uncheck the box to run a trial of the Pro version. If you don't you'll have two real-time anti-virus engines and that is known to cause all sorts of performance issues.

I would suggest you uninstall Malwarebytes, preferably with a good uninstaller like Revo or IOBit so you also clean up the garbage. Then I'd reboot (always a good idea because it refreshes the registry) and reinstall Malwarebytes being careful to uncheck the "trial Pro" box :)

In my experience Malwarebytes is one of the better scanner tools so it's worth getting it running properly.

Malwarebytes do a full uninstall tool which ive used a couple of times when it's had issues and then Reinstalled. I'd agree with ubuysa, you want malwarebytes working.

hi

I'm using the premium version: 2.0.2.1012
Something in the registry records I have purchased the permium version.

"uncheck the box to run a trial of the Pro version" I didn't see any box to select.

In that case make sure you're not also running any other real-time anti-virus tool.

So do you recommend turning off real-time protection for Microsoft Security Essentials. Before scanning with malwarebytes.

I wouldn't do that,I have the same set up security essentials and premium Malwarebytes.
What I did was disable real time protection in malwarebytes and it now works fine.
To do this open Malwarebytes, select settings /detection and protection, then disable "malware protection" and "malicious website protection, this should allow you to run a scan without issues.

As vanthus says, you need to disable the realtime virus protection in one or the other. It's having two real-time virus engines running that's almost certainly your problem. I would keep the one you trust the most and disable (or uninstall) the other.

I wouldn't uninstall or disable Security Essentials,Malwarebytes isn't meant to be run on it's own,it's designed to sit beside your traditional internet security suite, filling in any gaps in its defences, providing extra protection against sneakier security threats that normal antivirus programs won't detect.

What he said :)

I've been using the paid version of Malewarebytes with NIS for a long time now. No problems whatsoever. Along with spybot-s@d, spywareblaster and ccleaner, my computer is pretty secure.
