Macrium Reflect free - migrating backups and drive storage options

Hi,

I have been using my Windows 10 PCS build since February this year. Over the last few months, I have been using Macrium Reflect free to make complete backups of my PC using the 'Full' image option.

My backup drive is an external 3TB USB 3.0 HDD, which is split into 2 partitions, keeping the backup images separate from other data on the drive.

I have done a 'Full' backup earlier today. The backup was 259.20 GB, compressed using the 'Medium' compression option.

My remaining HDD space before the image was made on the external HDD drive was 0.99 TB. The space now has been to 805 GB.

I was thinking of buying a 10 TB external USB 3.0 HDD to maybe replace my existing drive and migrate the data over.

My primary drive is an M.2 1 TB Corsair MP600, which contains all my data, e.g. Windows, games etc.

My other internal drive is a conventional HDD 3TB Toshiba, installed when I had the PC built by PCS. This is blank and has no data on it.

Should I just by another external USB 3.0 HDD with a larger capacity or for the time being using my Toshiba HDD, which is installed internally?

I haven't used either the 'Incremential' or 'Differential' backup options before.

Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated, please.

Thank you.

I always do full backups with Macrium Reflect too. I cut an image every night and have it setup to keep 7 images.

Incremental and differential backups reduce the time taken to take the backup but they make the restore more complicated because more than one image file is required. IMO for a home user a full backup overnight is the best option because it makes the restore simpler.

Personally I'd use the 3TB internal drive you already have. Not only will that avoid paying for another external drive but the backup will be faster to the internal drive.
