Hi All,

first desktop in about 6 years, had a Dell XPS 1730 and then an Alienware m17x laptops over that period of time...

Ordered this machine a week or so ago, then made a couple of amends to it today, let me know what you think

Gaming rig i presume?

If it's just for gaming the overclock is probably a bit over the top, however if your into video editing or similar it will give you a nice boost with that.

All very high end stuff, not much is going to trouble that rig. Only thing i would change if it were my rig is the HDD, a caviar black would just finish off that rig a treat. The reason is, your SSD wont hold much and you will run out of room at some point, when you do your 2nd drive will then be used for everything else and it would be nice to have a fast HDD to launch eveyrthing from. I have noticed PCS seem to have upgraded their generic HDD's since i last looked but i bet the caviar black is still faster.

Your choice on that, even without the HDD upgrade it's still a beast

Big part of the 4GB graphics cards, is they have em in stock so It means the order can proceed now. I do have two monitors currently as well as a 32" TV that it'll get plugged into, so hopefully I can make at least some use of the extra ram... it didn't cost much more than the 2GB version anyways.

Caviar Black HDD, I'll take a look at em, might just be a case of getting one at a later date, total for this machine comes in at £1579ish right now. Maybe I should drop down to a 1TB caviar black Hard Drive instead of a 2TB one?

yeah it's a gaming rig mostly, though I do also often run SQL server/Oracle weblogic server for uni stuff/My job.

1TB is probably ample unless you have a huge movie/video collection you store on your HDD, i do think the caviar black would just finish off the system, if possible i would get one though it is not essential

as the order was only in the 3rd working day, I've taken your advice and swapped the 2TB HDD for a 1TB Caviar Black :) Thanks very much for the input :)

Looks great with the Caviar. :) Quick question: where did you find the 4GB 680? It's not an option when I try using the configurator..

they were being offered (at a cost) to people that ordered the 2GB version of the 680, they were in stock earlier in the week, £51 more expensive than the standard one, not sure if they have any left, but give em a call to check :)

apparently the spire thermax cpu cooler didn't fit, so instead it'll be having the titan cpu cooler (same price).

Was supposed to go into build today but no such luck it seems :)
