Leap Motion

Have any of you guys come across this yet?

https://www.leapmotion.com/

According to the BBC HP have signed off having it in-built to future laptops and I've read somewhere that Asus were also sniffing around. Shipping should start next month and for the £70/£80 shelf price it seems too good to be true. I don't suppose anyone had the joy of playing with one of the beta units earlier in the year?

looks cool there is no doubt about that,I will buy one, but I doubt the compatibity will be versitile at launch. I would give it a year of two after launch to really see what this thing can do, how ever I will not be using it to play games like battlefield 4, not a chance :p maybe for browsing youtube or looking at google maps or stuff like that, but I think complex movments will not be handled as well as the youtube demos show.

Doubt I'll be buying one, but that does look really good. Are my eyes playing tricks, or is it really by Apple.. and £70/£80? :p

There's deffinately a heavy Apple influence on the design side of things but I don't think they'd be so keen to sell it on to HP etc if it was them! There are a couple of third party reviews and videos kicking around which all give a very similar evaluation. Perhaps someone has hit the nail on the head with the equation and I can look forward to my 200" Minority Report style PC :D

It sounds like they're going to have a marketplace type affair to get hold of the relevant programes and apps etc and I don't know if they've official launched the UK price - I just guessed based on the current USD price on the site tbh.

I ordered one but cancelled the order. I thought it was a waste seeing as it was designed primarily for Windows 8

Does not work on Linux. However, I will give the company credit, unlike some they replied and replied very quickly to my question.

Here is their response: Hello, thank you for contacting Leap Motion. Linux support is only supported through our SDK for developers at the moment which is now available for anyone to download. We hope to have Linux support come standard on Leap Motion but is currently not available. Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Well lets face it, Linux is a much smaller user share than Mac or Windows, and to support the majority of Linux would need to be available on many different distributions, its just not worth the investment.

Leap motion looks interesting. Not really into games but here's one playing Borderlands 3

Looks impressive on first look, but I wouldn't want to have to be waving my arms around for 6 hours while shooting bad guys.

I'm sure it will have it's uses, but the good old mouse will take some beating.

It might end up like Wii sports, started off with everyone jumping around their living rooms, and ended up with people playing tennis while lying on the sofa eating crisps. :)
