I am planning WAAAAY ahead for my birthday in like 7 months and I created a laptop that I think I will get when the day comes around. It will be used for general purposes (Internet, youtube) and also gaming. I would like a laptop that could run games that are kind of performance heavy, but not like GTA V level or anything crazy. I would also like for it too last a while if possible. Here's what i made:

I'd say my absolute limit would be around £900.

I would try pushing for a quad core i7, the increase in price isn't that much but a lot more performance.
The Kingston V300 SSD has serious performance issues, any other model would be a lot better.
By then, the 960m will be out which would be much better.
Upgrade the Thermal Paste and Warranty.

Also, by then, Windows 10 will be out which may be worth consideration (DX12)

Basically, you want to allow as much as possible for the GPU as that's going to be the bottleneck for the system after a year or so of use, the better the card, the longer you'll get good gaming from it.

I don't mind the wait in ordering as obviously I'm not actually getting it for 7 months, so I think based on what you've said I'll wait a while and see what better options there are. There will be new chips, perhaps a refreshed chassis selection with mobile X99 motherboards and probably new memory, plus new GPU's, SSD's and new windows by the time you order. The above just gives you an idea of what you're looking at.

You won't get any benefits trying to find feedback for a laptop that will be purchased in 7 months time. As Spidertracks mentioned new conponents will be released as well as prices changing.
