a gaming laptop will have high temperatures due to limited cooling.

I have been playing a demanding MineCraft map recently, and my CPU was hitting 97°C. Should I be concerned by this either? I was using the method described here to check the temperature.

Sorry to hijack the thread btw!

I'd be more concerned with high 90's. What's your spec?

I have a Cosmos II, spec below:

Intel® Core™i7 Quad Core Mobile Processor i7-4710MQ (2.50GHz) 6MB
Memory (RAM)
8GB KINGSTON SODIMM DDR3 1600MHz (1 x 8GB)
Graphics Card
NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 850M - 2.0GB DDR3 Video RAM - DirectX® 11
1st Hard Disk
Change to: 750GB WD SCORPIO BLACK WD7500BPKX, SATA 6 Gb/s, 16MB CACHE (7200 rpm)
Thermal Paste
ARCTIC MX-4 EXTREME THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY COMPOUND
Sound Card
Intel 2 Channel High Definition Audio + MIC/Headphone Jack
Wireless/Wired Networking
GIGABIT LAN & WIRELESS INTEL® N-7260 (300Mbps, 802.11BGN) + BLUETOOTH

I'll send PC Specialist an email to see whether I should request an RMA. Originally I had a Core i5 and the standard thermal paste, I later upgraded the spec to the i7 and Arctic Silver, I hope they remembered the paste upgrade although they did remember the CPU!

is this sat on your lap at all? or on a surface. If it was on a surface then yea i would expect lower temps. i play titanfall on full whack and hit 67c through gpu and cpu, whilst its not under full load through the cpu its still at high 80% use. its worth noting that before i reapplied my own paste afterwards i was hitting 84c on my gpu. just something for you to think about. Mind you I have a vortex 4 with gtx770m gpu and i7 at 2.4ghz cpu. just my opinion but id think about reapplying padte and checking vents arnt clogged.

It is sat on my desk so they should be no restriction to airflow. I have only had the laptop for 3 and a bit weeks, so I doubt the vents would be clogged (though I'm not sure how long it would take for dust to build up).

EDIT: False Alarm!!! Script I was using seems to show 97°C regardless of the actual temperature. I've now downloaded CoreTemp which should be way more reliable!
