Laptop or PC for Gaming?

Hi,

I made a post the other day asking for some help with a spec for a gaming PC, which Scott promptly replied to, (Thanks again)

I was about to order it but started to think a laptop might be a better choice for me. Im a complete novice when it comes to configuring a pc, and I know a big benefit of having a desktop computer is the fact you can upgrade it in the future, which is something I probably would not do.

My question is, would I be able to run games in just as high detail on a laptop than I could on a desktop? (going back to my last post the games im looking to play are Total war and warband, so nothing too competitive.

If anyone gets the time once again to help me out with a laptop spec just so I can compare, it would be greatly appreciated.

If you have the room for a desktop and portability isn't important then a desktop is definitely the way to go. Laptops are a big compromise in order to achieve portability, the biggest of these is cooling. Laptops (especially gaming laptops) are hard to cool and heat is the number one enemy of electronics.

Thanks for the reply and for making a very good point.
Laptops are also a lot more expensive for less power, plus you can't upgrade them like you can a desktop. A desktop with marginal upgrades over it's lifetime to graphics, will last a good 7 to 10 years.

A laptop for gaming will stay current for about 2 years before you have to start reducing settings.
