Laptop crashes only when running intensive games and charging.

My new laptop is about 3 months old now and it recently started to crash only when I'm charging and gaming. Laptop runs normally all the time but if i boot up a game of bannerlord or rainbow 6, as soon as i load up my campaign or start a match the game freezes, audio begins looping and then screen goes black. the laptop won't respond to any sort of command other than the power off button.

I've done a DDU, reinstalled and checked the updates on my graphics drivers but other than that I don't know what to do. Not many people seem to know what the problem is and I'm not techie enough to attempt to fix it myself. My laptop's temperature never goes above 90 C, and usually even when plugged in and gaming, it cruises at around 75 C so I don't think it's a temperature problem.

I've contacted the supplier but they told me it would take 4 weeks from me sending them my laptop to getting it back, as I am currently in college right now and need my laptop this isn't really viable.

Specs:-
Chassis & Display Optimus Series: 15.6" Matte Full HD 120Hz 45% NTSC LED Widescreen(1920x1080)

Any help would be appreciated as I can't afford to have this laptop to be gone for 4 weeks. Thanks guys

That sounds like a hard crash, normally caused by memory or CPU.

You could you run Memtest to check your RAM stick
Run Prime95 to check your CPU

During all tests monitor everything closely on HWmonitor

Which nvidia drivers version are you running at the moment? Based on my own experience with the 2070, the last stable driver is the 452.06 . After that, all driver versions where giving me some weird black screens with videos and I saw some people on Nvidia forum complaining about black screens when gaming (even though it never happened to me). So if you're running a version greater than 452.06, I would try downgrading to that version as well and giving it a go.

I would be a little surprised if it was GPU related as those crashes tend to be CTD rather than system freeze/BSOD. That's my main reason for thinking CPU/RAM.

Every avenue definitely worth exploring though :)

Hi I have a similar spec to you with a similar issue. If you have sent it in on rma and they fail to replicate let them know it might need to be plugged into a non surge protected plug to replicate the issue.

I just got mine back as they failed to replicate and it works directly on a wall sockets and plugged into a surge protected extension. But will always have the problem when plugged into any non surge protected extension.

Even with nothing else plugged in to the extension? That's strange.

brilliant call. works with nothing else plugged in. this has happened with as small as a 4 port with only 2 other plugs with load. but an 8 socket with nothing else does not cause the issue.

Edit:
correction its no happening at all anymore... I checked the issue was still there on receiving the laptop back several times. but since plugging it into the wall socket for the first time i have been unable to replicate it. this is by far the most bizarre problem i have ever run into.

Second Edit:
Managed to make it happen again by unplugging my power brick for a few minutes and shutting the laptop down. just shutting down the laptop didn't change the outcome. I wonder if the power brick isn't right for this machine?
