Hey. I said I would post a review up when this laptop came because I know lots of people want to know how it is with it being new to the site and all. I originally ordered the Lafité but got upgraded to the Lafité II, but had to wait quite a while for delivery - 14 working days plus another 3 for delivery despite it being posted with Next Day delivery. I bought the laptop for getting me through my studies at University because it seemed like it had the potential to be fast, light and future proof for a while.

Build Quality

The build of the laptop feels and looks great. It feels really solid and premium, definitely worthy of the price tag. There is no flexing on the keyboard or anywhere else. It's not too small, or too big for my needs. Having been an owner of a Macbook air in the past, this definitely looks and feels a lot like it, which shouldn't be surprising anyone here, but my point is it doesn't feel like a rip off, but it feels of equal quality.

Speed

I'll update this a little later when I throw a game or two on to it, but I expect it to perform well. The SSD combined with the 8GB of RAM and the CPU makes daily tasks like browsing or text editing lightning fast. I'm studying areas like web design and development and this is perfect for it. I have Photoshop and Illustrator on this, and the laptop has no problems or slow downs in running these along with other programs, or even both at once. Other programs I have installed and been used are Steam, Brackets, Github Desktop, Spotify, all of which run with no hitches at all.

Screen

Beautiful, really. The high DPI of the 1080p display on a smaller laptop like this just looks fantastic and incredibly sharp. It's very bright, the viewing angles are insane due to it being IPS, and best of all, I haven't seen one damn reflection on this bad boy yet - even when sitting with the screen facing a window receiving direct sunlight. The colours look fantastic, and very lively on the screen. I kinda wish I could hook this screen up to my desktop and do some real gaming on it because I'm sure it would look beautiful.

Keyboard

The keyboard feels great to use to me, especially having had a macbook air in the past. The backlight on the keyboard is very bright if it needs to be but can be easily deemed or turned off if need be. It looks great too as a bonus.

I do however have 2 small complaints with this keyboard:
- No media keys tied to Fn as far as I can see. Just means having to go back into Spotify to skip music and stuff which is an inconvenience.
- There's 2 Fn keys when there doesn't need to be. Lets be honest here, they're rarely used so only having 1 key tied to this is usually fine. The position the second one is in is what really bugs me though - it's right next to the right shift key. Maybe it's personal preference, but I'd have rather had a longer shift key so I'm not accidentally hitting the Fn button.

But like I said, small problems. It's overall fantastic, I'm using it now to type this with no issue.

Touchpad

I read the reviews for the first Lafité and they all mention the touchpad as being awful. I don't think that's the case here as I haven't had many issues with it. When I'm typing I'll notice the mouse cursor floats around a bit because of the way my hands are rested, but it never clicks so I don't mind that too much. I had an issue where no gestures worked for me when the laptop arrived but this was fixed upon entering my windows 10 key, and getting the windows updates when I restarted my laptop. I might need more time with it in this area but it definitely doesn't seem awful. Only other note I can make is the touchpad itself feels frictionless, which is fantastic, because it doesn't feel like your finger is rubbing, as much as it is gliding.

Battery

The battery life is great. It gives me about 5-6 hours off the battery with the screen brightness up all the way and general usage like web browsing. This is fantastic to for me as this is what truly makes a laptop mobile. It means I don't need to worry about plugging in during lectures and such, when there's no sockets around. It does, like others have said, take crazy long to charge. 5-6 hours from 10%. I don't mind this too much personally, but others might. Someone on the forums mentioned in a thread that there battery goes down even when the laptop itself is powered off - I have not had this happen to me.

Other bits and Summery

Only other thing I can think to mention is the fan. I get the same as others have said with the fan starting and stopping and I can see why it would be annoying, but it's alright to me to be honest. I'd definitely prefer it didn't do this as it does make the fan more noticeable, but it's not ruining my experience with this laptop. The fan isn't that loud when it's going either.

To sum it up: Seems like a fantastic laptop. Really happy with my purchase at £600. Some little nitpicks here and there but nothing that remotely comes close to ruining anything this laptop has to offer. I would recommend this laptop to someone who is looking for an ultra fast daily task experience, and a fast laptop for tools such as Photoshop, and needs their laptop to be portable because of the fantastic battery life and lightweight sleek design of the chassis.

I'll maybe get pictures up later but I'm a lazy person with lots of stuff to do! :p

Pretty much agree with everything you've said. A really fantastic laptop for general work and browsing. There are some flaws but those don't detract away from the overall experience of this laptop, which is fantastic to use.

I'm assuming the specs you posted are actually for a Lafite 1 as its a 5th gen cpu, does it have an ethernet port?

This is definitely the Lafite II, it has a backlit keyboard and no ethernet port.

The CPU in it is actually the 6500-U. It just seems the spec format that PC Specialist gives you to post on the forums doesn't reflect changes to your order. Updated the specs!
