keyboard that lets you press more than 2 keys at once when gaming

I have just bought Razer Blackwidow Ultimate keyboard, but if you try to press more than 2 keys at once it locks the movement keys. My son tells me he needs to press space bar, plus W,A, S and D keys simultaneously.

Does anyone know if the keyboard we have can support this ? If not, any suggestions please ? (Ideally backlit keys, don't mind clicky or non-clicky keys)

Yes, that keyboard should work up to 6 keystrokes at a time. Not sure why its not working i'm afraid. What game is it he is trying to play?

Under anti ghosting, it mentions it should work fine. Depending on the game, maybe an email to Razer or a post on the games forum is in order.

Hmm think the ultimate edition of this will even do more than 6 at the same time, 10 I think...so if its not working I would a) test with a different game just to be sure and then b) get back to the seller and explain the problem. I have never had one of these keyboards but it should work without ghosting out of the box. Make sure the Synapse drivers are installed just to be safe before contacting the seller although I'm not sure if they are required to get this functionality tbh.

Nb. There are a lot of imitations of this keyboard out there for sale (i.e. Chinese fake types) so be sure it is a real Razer one too. If it was very cheap, chances are it might not be a real one. If it is the 2014 ultimate one it should be about £100.

The keyboard cost £109, and I am fairly confident it is genuine.

I wonder if a more basic keyboard would be OK for 'straffing' (I think that is what it is called, I am not a gamer, just a mum trying to buy the right thing)

To be honest, nearly every "gaming" type keyboard that you will be able to buy on Amazon should have anti ghosting capabilities for what your son needs it for. Having said that, the Razer does sound like its faulty so I would send it back and get a replacement. If however you fancy getting your money back (£109 is a lot for a keyboard....Im not a fan of Razer stuff to be honest.) and getting something cheaper then pretty much any keyboard designed for gaming will work. Razer actually redesigned the switches on these keyboards to use their own kind of switches; which a few users have complained about being not being up to standard; you could have a duff one.

Non mechanical gaming keyboard

Even something like this will work and in certain cases these can be better than mechanical keys to some. If your son prefers mechanical keys (clicky) then you will generally pay a bit more for em!

OK, I think we have solved the problem !

We switched the PC off last night, and when we re-started it this morning, the keyboard seems to be doing what it is suppose to do (no idea why that worked, maybe something updated ?)

With hindsight, the clicky keys may be good for the gamer, but not so good for the parents

Anyway, thanks for your help. Next challenge, a new chair - off the IKEA I think........

hah, it may have been the drivers playing up, I get that sometimes on my Switch keyboard. Restarting fixes it, mind you I very seldom turn my PC
And I know what you mean about clicky keys, my GF hates it and demands I get a quieter keyboard..

Chair wise - I think DXRacer do excellent computer usage chairs. Yes, they are "gaming" orientated, but they are comfy (just about Herman Miller chair comfortable at HM "second hand" prices!), height adjustable, arm rest adjustable, lumbar support, "easy clean leatherish" cover (not 100% sure what it's made of, but better then cheap fabric covered office chairs). My wife has got one, I've got a "King" series (needed the higher end ones because of my 6ft2in height) - both as general office/computer chairs: lots of people on YouTube have them. They are £250 though (339 Euros from dxracer.net ), but I can imagine them last a lot longer than cheap chairs and give me a lot more support.

The DX Racer chair has already been suggested, but I can't find anywhere in the UK to go and try them.

Are there any stockists in UK ? (I know I could order one online, but how do you choose the right model without seeing one ?)

I was just about to post that I could never justify spending almost £200 just for a chair, then I realised that I'm sitting in a custom made ergonomically designed chair that cost over £800, it's amazing what you can persuade employers to spend when it comes to the health and well being of the employees here

There's no UK stockists that I know of (well, there seems to be some stockists on Amazon), just their Poland EU warehouse (hey, PCSpecialist - thinking of branching out? ). It's a bit of a risk I know (make sure you check the height/weight on the different ranges), but they do offer a 14-day money back guarantee (who it works with shipping, I do not know).

Androcles - yep, those are probably the Herman Miller chairs which retail for over £900 new and businesses like them (personally, I find little difference between them and the DXRacer apart from the HM chairs are much more fiddly - too many knobs, bulbs and switches!), yes, the DXRacer ones are very "gamer" like and wouldn't impress investors/business partners, but they are designed for people who spend a lot of time in their chairs at a computer wanting to move the mouse+keyboard quickly.

"Operator" chairs I think have been designed by sadists - I was getting back pain from mine before I took a leaf out of my wife's book and got a DXRacer - after she was inspired by TradeChat+TotalBiscuit on YouTube). Plus I was getting through the operator chairs every 6-12 months and at about £30 a pop, the DX needs to last less than 5 years for it to work out cheaper (it's only been about 9 months so far and it's still like new).
