Got a really weird issue with my Defiance laptop.
The W key on my keyboard is getting stuck, but not in a normal way:
- The longer I keep my finger on it, the longer it will stay active after, so for example when I'm typing this post it's all fine, but when I hold W in a game for e.g. 10 seconds to run, the W key will be applied for an extra ~2-3 seconds after I take my finger off it. Seems it's getting buffered?
- I checked and this happens overall in Windows, it's not specific to any program.
- I took the keycap off and there is nothing lodged in there, all clear. Compared with other keycaps, no obvious differences. Switched keycaps too, didn't work.
Possible reasons that I think I've ruled out:
Overheating - read online that heat might be causing something to be happening to the keyboard wiring, but I don't think it's the case as the keys around W are fine, the issue is only with the W key. Regardless, I've undervolted the CPU and repasted the CPU and GPU and the issue remains.
Software - got rid of Control Centre, no change.
Weird solution:
When using the key with the keycap off, as below, it works fine. It doesn't get stuck at all. It's not however comfortable so I would prefer to somehow fix this. Any thoughts or advice?
UPDATE: Played around and welp, turns out I can replicate the behaviour with the keycap off if I fully compress the rubber bit. During normal gameplay my finger doesn't compress it with the keycap off, but I guess the keycap compresses it fully.
Guess that means a defect with the keyboard?
