Use your MS account not local login. Fn-f6/f7 control the brightness level. To select the colour etc you need the "Control Center" (not the Control Panel). You can get and install this as follows.
Login to PCSpecialist website and your account. Make a note of the laptop order number. Open the TechSupport tab open Download. It asks you to choose the order number and the OS. Click the right OS and you are taken to the downloads available. You want this:
It's a zip file, so you need to unpack it (which happens more or less automatically). When unpacked you execute the file with the .STD extension. This installs the so-called control center. Open this and you will have access to how to manage the keyboard backlight.
NB. There is a wee booklet that comes with the laptop. It has instructions for adjusting the backlight. They are inaccurate, so ignore.
