Her old Toshiba, which was passed down to her some years back from my younger sister and brother in law has finally got to the point where we managed to peruade her to get a new one.

The "Beast" as she calls it was still running windows 7, and has stopped charging the battery (reckon it actually had an internal coal fired power station 😂), and today I was even struggling to open a chrome homepage on it.

All its used for is a bit of web browsing and the odd word document, so i thought this would do her nicely, she can treat it as a birthday pressent to herself, she'll be 94 on Thursday

I would suggest at least 8Gb RAM, 4Gb will just about run windows but will struggle with anything more than that.

As someone who received a 4GB laptop I can confirm that 8GB does make a good difference, especially with how ram hungry browsers are these days. I trust you with your expertise though as always 😊

Laptop money is crazy just now IMO. The way the chip costs have gone has driven everything crazy. Used to be you could get a reasonable internet laptop for around £400, it's £600 now IMO.

I wouldn't be looking at custom though, personally. I've never recommended a custom sub £800 build yet.
