Hi all

After much deliberating and a couple of past posts in here, I am just about to press the purchase button so a quick look by your good self's would be much appreciated.

I am not a gamer so a top level GPU is not required but I do some basic photo editing in Photoshop.

Main use will be Excel/up to 10 plus web pages open/4-8 word docs open/Photoshop running and perhaps some music so dvd r/w required in case.

I have tried to futureproof this system but have I gone overboard on i7 and 500gb M2 or underwhelmed on GPU.

Thanks in advance

One thing that will also help the knowledgeable guys here is the limit of your budget and what display you intend on using, in case you want to edit that in while waiting :)

I'd suggest buying a new monitor. Any cheap 24" 1080p one. 1080p is much higher resolution, and is very useful for productivity, e.g. letting you display 2 programs side by side very comfortably.

An i7 isn't necessary, and isn't really beneficial for your uses either. I'd suggest a system based around an AMD Ryzen R5 2600x. Same number of cores and threads as the i7, with fairly decent frequencies and similar IPC, but a lot less expensive.

You don't really need the Samsung Pro for your uses. The Evo is already crazy fast.

Thank you Oussebon for your considered advice its very much appreciated.

Your monitor advice is spot on (as is the rest) so I'm going to pop into town over the weekend to check what the monitor sizes are like in real life as I may go for 27in.

Hoping to order Sat/Sun

Some people find the pixel density a bit low for 1080p on 27". Plus 27" monitors can add an extra ~£40 onto a 1080p monitor, which is getting towards 1440p 27" monitors. See what you think when you look at a few I guess :)

Ahhhhhh I did not even take into consideration the difference between 1080p and 1440p...I shall have to look into it

Since you're not gaming, a 1050 ti should be as good for a 1440p monitor as a 1080p one. 1440p monitors can usually be had for ~£200, though even a ~£100/120 1080p 24" monitor would be a huge upgrade over your current one in terms of screen real estate. Keep us posted!

Wow choices choices

Its a minefield having only ever had 17/19 inch monitors the widescreen are definitely a different kettle of fish.

I seem to like the 27inch, if you don't mind me asking what do you think of these....I'm a little lost to be frank.

Both available on PCS web site btw.

Of the 2, the IIyama is the clear winner for your uses thanks to the AMVA+ panel.

While both are available at PCS, you are ofc free to buy them elsewhere if it saves you £ :)

Thank you once again Oussebon and again I have had to search the difference in panels such as AMVA+ as this is ALL new to me...good learning curve though

Yes price is important and more so guarantee and return policy especially as this system and monitor is coming to sunny Ireland :punk:

Well I'm still dithering over two things!!!!!

1).Monitor.....ASUS VC279H 27" ULTRA-SLIM IPS MONITOR..or Iiyama B2783QSU-B1 27
both seem to have good reviews...any thoughts most welcome or even a good suggestion for say £250 max ?

And

2).I've come into a tad more money (sales of some of my comic collection.....cry cry) and I am rather impressed with this new review Vulcan S 01.

Ok I gather its over kill for my non gaming needs but the extra £200/£300 appears to give me a awful lot more bang for bucks so to speak and I do like a bargain.

However it is just a waste of that extra hard earned dosh if I'm never going to use the extra grunt. Although at my auld age this system should be as future proof as I will ever need!!!!!

It's overkill. You're not going to need the better GPU for your uses. It's a good deal, but not for what you're shopping for.

If you were going to spend more on the system, I wouldn't suggest the Vulkan. I'd suggest getting a system based on an i7 8700(k) with a 1050 ti GPU, and keeping back the extra cash for a 4k IPS monitor.

For your uses, if you're going to spend more on something, it should really be a higher resolution monitor.

Good man Oussebon sound advice as usual.

I shall make my mind up re the monitor and hopefully put an order in later today or tomorrow.

Many thanks for all your advice.

The spec seems fine.

That's relatively expensive for what is ultimately a 'budget' 1080p monitor.

You can get 25" 1440p IPS monitors for £170 or less, e.g. Acer H257HU. Or ~£180 for 1440p IPS 27" e.g. HannsG HQ272PPB

Any modern monitor is going to be an upgrade over your old one, but I would suggest going for 1440p for this kind of money.

Be aware that this monitor Q2778VQE has a TN panel, rather than IPS.

Bummer...….I've spent days trying to get a monitor at the right price sent to Ireland and settled for this review https://www.gamingscan.com/best-1440p-monitors/.

Even ordering was a bit of an ordeal as PCS web site would not accept my payment and kept telling me to change drop down box at top of page to Euros but this was already done as well as county stating Ireland. I had to phone my order through and William was very helpful and took my order saying it may have been a cookie in my browser.

My poor auld Asus P5W DH has already crashed twice today so I'm really looking forward to the safe arrival of this system:yes:
