...it's hard to resist

I'm already 5 months shopping around and waiting for a price drop and also was waiting firstly for a 3060 launch, but its price really put me off. Now looking to see what 3050Ti will be like, but it doesn't seem that it's going to be launched soon. At first it was rumoured for spring, but now talks for August is around and it seems that a 3080Ti will be launched before (long time overdue).

I badly need to change a 10 years old laptop not just because of its bad performance, but also I need a new machine for studies and coming exams which will be online. So, reliability is important, also exams require larger than 17inch screen and a webcam while mine is currently 15inch and a webcam takes a break whenever it pleases :poop:

Last year I started with 3600, then jumped on 3700X, then looked at 5600X and settled with 5800X. I probably don't need to mention that my budget changed from 1500 Euro to somewhere around 2300-2500 Euro. It hurts to see a total more than 2500, but oh well... We work for gaming, right?

Currently my monitor is a shy 1080p Asus Tuf VG249. I'll probably upgrade a GPU with a new 32inch G7 some time after a few years as it's just not to my pocket right now.

I mostly game RTS and simulations (Civilization, Anno, Cities Skylines) but also Mafia, GTA and some light games. For storage I'm struggling to make the right decision due to its prices: thinking of fastest M.2 500GB for OS and software; slower M.2 1TB for games and some software if I'll need; Sata SSD 2TB for everything else (mainly document files and some games if I'll need) and another HDD 2TB for some back up files, photos, odd movie etc. I probably don't need this HDD, but when they're sooo cheap it's hard to resist o_O

A configurator doesn't let me to put in 3 additional fans but I'll contact PCS to beg them for mercy 😼

I'm thinking of AIO in the roof, rear exhaust default case fan, through away front default case fan and add 3 front intake Corsair RGB fans. So, where to spend less?

I mean... you sure you need 32GB ram? I play a lot of strategy games and 16GB has been fine for me. As for fans... ML120 are regularly on offer (3 for £70 or so).

As for 3050ti... i would fully expect it to be equal to a 2060 at the absolute best and probably closer to a 1660 super in all honesty.

Also i assumed the elite capellix is out of stock? It is a great cooler and as it comes with a commander... fantastic purchase

Sorry to see you leaving the bunker, one more loss before the summer.

The build looks very solid in all areas as I would expect from you. I guess the Sata SSD could possibly be dropped, if you were to be a bit more selective with the games you kept stored on your m.2 drives.

Agree with the above, cutting back to 16GB of RAM shouldn't cause any issues, but also isn't a huge saving.

Needs more RGB 😜

You have my blessing. I’d tweak the storage but that’d be to my own personal needs and yours may well be different to mine.

I’m not entirely happy you’ve put Chrome in there, I’m assuming that’s the reason why you need 32GB of RAM 🙃

I know, Cities Skylines isn't well balanced for optimum RAM usage. With DLCs, mods and assets it uses somewhere between 20 to 30GB of RAM  Vanilla game would use between 6 and 10 RAM. I won't have as many mods and assets to reach 30, but I'll need 20GB.

Will look around for ML fans, it's hard to find retailers who are shipping to Ireland after Brexit... May need to look from the EU websites.

About 3050Ti I'm also very pessimistic. Even 3060 wasn't something wow I'd have expected. I see now a price difference between 2060 and 3060 is tidy, but still thinking better just to stick with 2060 - not seeing much of a point overspending here for 3060 when thinking to go for 1440p in a few years and not playing heavily graphics demanding games.

Elite capellix is in stock, but I don't now how much better it's comparing to the PRO XT. Will need to look, thanks for point that out ;)

Thanks! Hmmm, 16GB vs 32GB is around 100 Euro. Sata SSD 2TB vs M.2 2TB is around 50 Euro. That's a lot to think about... Probably won't be sleeping tonight :)

Oh. My. God.
I swear it was you who put Chrome there as I'm no longer using Chrome! 🤯 🤨

RGB? I think front will be enough. I'm slightly over 30 and I don't feel comfortable of too many disco lights around me - reminds me of getting older 😳 I think I'll add more when I'll reach my mid-age crisis 🤩

32GB RAM - I'll sleep on it, thanks :)

I dont think there is anything I would really change... No point dropping to a 1660 Super its about £20 different and that £20 works for a living with the 2060 vs 1660S.

Personally wouldnt bother with a HDD at all with 2TB SSD storage, but thats probably just me and my uses, and the 32GB RAM makes sense with what youve said about Cities Skylines. Plus you're well placed for things like MFSN2020 should you want to.

What left in the budget? Caa you squeeze for 3600MHz RAM? (the RGB are like only a £5 more too...)

My budget is ok to stretch, but I'm just not feeling comfortable spending much over 2500 Euro, it's just my personality - enjoying saving than spending, a bit like Scrooge McDuck ;) I don't know if I really want so much RGB, it puts me off. RGB RAM is a no no for me :)

So far on my list to think about is RAM speed, storage, cooler and maybe ML front fans instead of LL.

Thanks everybody for the great input - lots of wonderful ideas and suggestions!

I get the point about taking the capellix, a commander core does make life a little easier, but the one you have is a good performing model still. To be fair, i'd take the capellix but more because of the RGB fans rather than needing the performance improvement.

I have three LL120 dual loop (came with the corsair 500D SE case) and thy're very good... I get the ML are better (quieter and more powerful) but again, I dont think the performance is going to let you down.

I would say, if you were going to focus the budget on the performance/price/need aspect, i'd stick with the 3200MHz RAM, H115i Pro XT, drop the extra fans and take the money you're spending on extra fans and combine it with the case spend. Order in a Corsair 500D SE (im biased, but it makes sense...commander pro included, three fans LL120 dual loop included, Because of how the case is the fans from the cooler arent actually that visable unless you look upwards into the case anyway) Or something like the Corsair 680X and take the capillex cooler.
Would mean using the sending in your own case option, neither in stock at PCS atm (also costs more it seems, 500D SE £250 on OC's compared to £180ish when it was on PCS) Both cases are more premium, but I think they are also cases you would really -want- to reuse for the next build too.

While I don't like the 680X, I absolutely love 500D SE and I think I'll go for it. It's worth the money. It's also on a discounted price on Amazon £226.98 now. That would be a nice treat!   It comes with 3 front fans. And then I'll just add a Corsair 120mm exhaust fan in the back.

The 680X isnt an ugly case... acquired taste for some maybe, but yes the 500D SE is beautiful but i'll warn you the same as I was, be prepared to do a lot of polishing! Even the brushed metal edged seem to show fingerprints just like the glass, i'd invest in a good microfibre cloth.

The benefit of the 680X would be it it already has a rear fan and comes with a lighting node, I'm thinking that and the commander core from the capillex and you've got yourself a full fan/lighting hub and all in iCue. It also looks very easy to work in, but then so is the 500D SE.
Theres a price jump with it still, £225 on OC's where I think it was around £150/£160 on PCS when listed before.

I’d have to look into it a lot more, but... my understanding is the 5000X is the go to case now. GamersNexus said the 4000 and 5000 (especially 5000) cases are the first cases in a long time, where Corsair have actually made a solid case.

I tried looking it up and the only real benefit of the 500D SE is that it has a commander pro with it (wont need elite capellix) and it has Aluminium (if that is even a pro). The 5000X however has better airflow, better fans, considerably cheaper, can basically mount central heating and is a glass case, with actual airflow.

I used to really want the 500D SE, but is it worth the money? I’m not sure. I am under the impression, it’s price is based around the expense to produce, rather than what it offers. Beautiful cases though and it certainly wouldn’t be a bad choice, i just think the 5000X could be better.

I was thinking about it... but currently I don't have much space for a PC and I'll keep it on a desk rather than floor... I know, funny, but I have more space on desk than floor! 😆

And about 5000X - they're wonderful and I keep looking at them... but soooo large case just really is what I don't like. I mean... I could fit in it! 🙃

So I thought 4000D airflow would be a perfect size case, but it doesn't have RGB fans. 500D SE is slightly bigger but certainly smaller than the elephant storage the 5000X.

Wait, emm, I should think about 4000X vs 500D SE.

Yeah 4000X is a great case, but i believe they made slight improvements to the 5000X over the 4000X, but it is around £100 for the 4000X which is a bargain.

500D SE vs the 4000X is a no brainer IMO. Obviously the budget is the consideration but when you're adding the fans/controller anyway then it's definitely a no brainer.

The rest of the build is solid as it is IMO. I would stick with the 32GB RAM, 2x16GB just makes sense where the budget allows. To go from 2x8 up to 32GB would feel like a waste of slot space to me.

Storage, I wouldn't get too hung up on. You'll change it at some point, just don't have too little. My personal choice would be 500GB super fast, 2TB Corsair M2 and 3TB Conventional. That's just me though, there's no wrong choice when following a super fast, really fast, big n slow topology.

4000X wouldn’t need extra fans, if you add the Elite Capellix. The Elite Capellix also has incredibly powerful ML fans, more powerful than the regular ones, which sit at the same noise as regular ML fans, when running at 500rpm higher.

If you go 5000X though, i don’t believe it is that much bigger than the 500D SE and it has excellent fans already added, better than LL’s and SP’s. 500D SE, 4000D airflow, 4000X, 5000D airflow and 5000X are all excellent cases though.
