i've worked my tiny little feet hard to the bone all year, and my amazing boss is giving me a raise and a bigger bonus than usual to say well done and thankyou....

so im thinking of getting myself a pc that will be as futureproofed as possible, my missus is in the graphical design business and has recently upgraded her monitor that she has laptop attached to when at home from a samsung monitor to an asus 24" ips monitor which i have fallen in love with, its gorgeous to look at, and the features etc are top notch, plus it makes my pc games look awesome,

i posted a spec a couple of weeks ago bu then had a rethink and thought, well hey i'll go for broke, i may as well as i hope this pc can last me 5 or 6 years. so its gonna be attached to at least 1 (maybe more) asus 24" 1920x1200 resolution monitors,

i have an audio system that i run through my tv that i will use to output sound. my question being, is this complete overkill, over the top, or will i still be seeing the benefits in a few years, are the fans gonna be too loud, any feedback welcome.

final thing is that i intend to run the os and a couple of other things from the ssd, any games and software from the two raptor drives, and just general day to day files, etc from the wd black hdd. spec posted below.

What are you actually going to be using the PC for?

Since you've picked a large SSD, do you really need two Velociraptor drives as well - a bit overkill per chance :), I shouldn't think you'd need either of the Velociraptors.
Do you really need 16GB of RAM? Unless you're doing a lot of highly intensive RAM usage stuff like rendering you shouldn't need that amount.

Is the 2nd optical drive really necessary, I wouldn't have though so unless you're planning on copying and awful lot of DVD's.

At first glance, I'd say big overkill :) depends on what you're using it for, but for most things still looks like overkill to me :)

Good lord, you really did get a big bonus! Keep the ram, you want it to be future proof. I would just get a couple of caviar blacks, they are still very fast drives and velociraptors are ridiculously prices. Keep the SSD though, you will want the speed! How much hard drive space do you need/ want? Otherwise, looks like the most powerful pc I have ever seen! You also may want to consider 590s as apparently they are a big speed increase.

I tried to post last night, but laptop was being naf (pc world jobby) I'd go for this, will save you a ton and to me seem a little more balanced. £1,966.33

Case
COOLERMASTER HAF-X FULL TOWER GAMING CASE

Processor (CPU)
Intel® Core™i7-2600 Quad Core (3.40GHz, 8MB Cache) + HD Graphics i dont see the need for the 2700k, unless you wanna overclock to some cracy 5.0ghz

Motherboard
ASUS® P8Z68-V PRO/GEN3: PCI-E 3.0 READY, SLI, CROSSFIREXthese are very good, in my opinion better than your choice, unless you are ovrclocking

Memory (RAM)
16GB KINGSTON HYPER-X GENESIS DUAL-DDR3 1600MHz, X.M.P (4 x 4GB KIT) may as well keep this, ram is pretty cheap at the moment.

Graphics Card
3GB NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 580 - 2 DVI, HDMI, DP - 3D Vision Ready I have one of these, not met a game its not maxed out, try it with one first, only one is needed for one screen, if you want more screens and wanna go nivida surround, get a second 3gb 580, and more screens :) But try it first, you may find one 580 is enough for your needs

Memory - 1st Hard Disk
120GB KINGSTON HYPERX SSD, SATA 6 Gb/s (upto 555MB/sR | 510MB/sW) you could go for 240gb but i'd settle for the 120gb up to you

2nd Hard Disk
2TB WD CAVIAR BLACK WD2002FAEX, SATA 6 Gb/s, 64MB CACHE (7200rpm)games on here, the raptors are fast, but these are more cost effective

3rd Hard Disk
2TB WD CAVIAR GREEN WD20EARS, SATA 3 Gb/s, 64MB CACHE pics, media, movies, music, the reason i chose a sata3gbs hdd, is because the motherboard only has two sata 6 ports, and 4 sata 3gbs ports.

1st DVD/BLU-RAY Drive
12x BLU-RAY ROM DRIVE, 16x DVD ±R/±RW (£42)

Power Supply
CORSAIR 1050W PRO SERIES™ HX1050-80 PLUS® SILVER MODULAR (£159) plently for an extra 580 in the future.

Processor Cooling
TITAN FENRIR EVO EXTREME HEATPIPE CPU COOLER (£39) no need for liquid cooling, comes with its own risk of leaking, which is very unlikely, however, i would like to know the risks before buying, sure you would too. this cooler is amazing, its massive and one of the best air coolers.

Sound Card
Sound Blaster® X-Fi™ Titanium - Fatal1ty Professional Series (£102)I wouldn't go for the top sound card, only difference is it has a little front bay panel, dont see the point.

Fan controller I wouldnt put one in, to be honest i'd buy one separate, also your case has 3 200m megaflow fans and one 140mm fan, so you will only need one fore 200mm fan to fill it up, will give you amazing cooling.

Network Facilities
10/100/1000 GIGABIT LAN PORT - AS STANDARD ON ALL PCs

USB Options
6 x USB 2.0 PORTS @ BACK PANEL (MIN 2 FRONT PORTS) AS STANDARD

Operating System
Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit - inc DVD & Licence (£79)

Office Software
NO OFFICE SOFTWARE

Anti-Virus
NO ANTI-VIRUS SOFTWARE

Warranty
3 Year Silver Warranty (1 Year Collect & Return, 1 Year Parts, 3 Year Labour) (£5) go for more, i would

Delivery
STANDARD INSURED DELIVERY TO UK MAINLAND (MON-FRI)

just thought i' give you an idea of what i'd look at getting :) tom

I would like this to be as futureproofed as possible, and I don't want to have to change it too much until it is ultimately replaced 5 or 6 years maybe more, further down the line, so this is essentially instead of an £1800 pc and then upgrades or a replacement over the next few years. I will be overclocking in the future at some point, so i'm considering asking pcs to fill all the fan slots available. I also read on another thread that creative have just released the Sound Blaster Recon3D new sound cards, any thoughts on these & when they might be made available by pcs

hehe, that was probably me that mentioned it, :) I dunno when they are going to be on pcs, as I don't work for pcs, but I'm sure someone from pcs will know the answer. You could buy one yourself direct from creative and send it to pcs, ask nicely of course this one or this one :)

The reason i didn't suggest the fan controller is, to fill all the fans slots on the haf -x all you need is one more megaflow fan, then pick ya self up a decent fan controller for say 25-30quid, install that and the fan controller ya self.

i'm going to be overclocking this in the future at some point, I will at some point be getting two further Asus monitors that I mentioned in my 1st post as my missus will be using the setup for her work as well, I do a lot of video editing at the moment, as well as creation of virals for local small companies, I have a huge among of uncompressed files that need to be stored, as well as music files which are held at quite a sizeable file size, hence why I previously mentioned the need for a decent sound card due to how myself and the missus intend to use the rig in future, also I have heard about issues with having the cm haf x on a carpeted floor due to height of it off the floor at its base, and the dust filters, can anyone she any light on this.
I have a 5.1 onkyo surround system, and eventually the rig will be running 3 asus 24" 1920x1200 is monitors

i imagine PCS will probably add in the 4 spare fans if they cannot put them anywhere, and then you can use them how you wish

of pcs site

"Maximum Fans

As part of the package we will install up to 5 fans inside the case. Most gaming cases come supplied with 3 or more fans by default, and these will count towards the 5 fans in total that will be supplied.

You should expect any additional fans to be solid black and 120mm in size
."

So even with the fan controller ya probably not going to get the extra megaflow fan.

yeah your gonna need a decent sound card, and two 580's, go for the 3gb models.

i cant help you much but if you have the money now way aswell get 2 580s as it will be easier and will run any game in the next many years on ultra i think. 3 screens would be beast and if you wanna get 3 screens soon you will also have to buy a gcard and can be a very expensive month. No idea what u do you might be earning enough so this doesnt matter but i would go all out and get it done and over with so no hassle later on :) Just wish i had enough money to build a spec like this :(

anyone have a haf x or a 922 or 932, as in my previous post I'm trying to find out what the clearance at the bottom of it is as it will eventually be on a carpeted floor and I don't want the fans sucking up stuff from the floor (essentially hoovering for me), the coolermaster site only seems to give the height but not the height if the bottom from the floor, I'm excited but slightly embarrassed about possible overkill. I will however post pics & bids up when I get the rig, for you all to enjoy !
