Hi Ben. There’s some mismatched parts here that could do with a bit of optimisation, can I ask a few questions to get a handle on things?

What’s your budget?

What are the uses for the system, gaming streaming, editing, design etc?

What monitor will you be using with it? Make and model or resolution and refresh rate would be handy to know.

Ta!

Hello,

My budget is around the price of this build, so about £2000. With flexibility though.

I will mostly be using this for occasional work, but mostly gaming.

My monitor is currently the Samsung CFG73. I use this monitor or my current PC so am not sure If in need of an upgrade.

Thanks for the reply!

Hi.

Some problems I can see right now. You have paired the beast 3080 with a 144Hz monitor, meaning 144fps. On your 1080p monitor, it can handle around 180 or 200fps. Either get a 240Hz Monitor, or get a older GPU. Also, why don't you get an X570 motherboard so it can last longer and getter better performance. 👍

You could do with some SSD M.2 storage, no need for 2 HDD drives

Currently you have a Ferrari looking PC but with speeds of a push bike

I would wait for some better advice than mine, but normally they tend to say, take the silver warranty as its only a bit more expensive, swap the Wireless network card to a Intel Wi-Fi 6 AX200.
Possibly the cooler too but wait for the more in the know to give you final advice.

Optimised it! There’s a 3060Ti in there, so I’d suggest asking Santa for a 1440p 144Hz monitor for xmas and relegating your current one to ‘second screen’ status. If you don’t want to change your monitor you can drop the GPU to the 2060 👍

Thanks again for the feed back! However, there seems to be a smallish price change yet a rather big downgrade in specs. Sorry If this seems like a stupid question (I have little experience in computers), but how is there such a minor price change for such a downgrade?
Also, what is the difference between the normal storage drive ssds and the M.2 drive ones?

I think the word downgrade isn’t quite right. I’ve tweaked the spec so it’s more appropriate for the uses of (as you said in your other thread) mainly gaming and occasional work. With graphics card options much more suited to your monitor than the 3080, which would be wasted on a 1080p screen. Basically, I’m trying to make sure you’re not wasting money 🙂👍

Of course. I am very grateful for the help and apologize for the wrong wording.(I will not occupy anymore of your time, just these last questions)
If I was to buy a 4k monitor would my previous specs still be viable? And what is the difference between getting an SSD in the first storage drive over the M.2 SSD drive?

Thanks A lot!

No apology necessary, it’s all good. I’ll go into a bit of detail on my logic of the system...

The case you picked isn’t the best for airflow, components can get a bit toasty in there. Combine that with a 12 core CPU and a cooling unit that isn’t one of the more up to date models and you’re heading for an unwelcome case of thermal throttling.

Most gaming is absolutely fine off 6 cores, having 8 gives you a bit of headroom and will also be handy if you choose to start streaming. Having 12 as a gamer is largely redundant for most things except potentially flight simulators.

M.2 drives are the next generation of SSDs, they’re blazingly fast in comparison. The reason I put two in there is so you’ve got a smaller one that your OS and programs would live on, ensuring a super speedy boot time. The second, larger one is where your games would live. They’d get the benefit of fast loading, always handy if you’re playing something like Red Dead 2 which takes forever to get going. The added bonus of having this setup is that if you ever need to do a clean install of Windows (virus, corrupted files etc) your games and files are safe on that second drive, they won’t get wiped. It’s a luxury move, but one I’m glad I made.

The base build I’ve done for you is solid, it’ll last 7-10 years with a GPU update every now and then.

Back to your own spec... you’d need the H115i RGB Platinum to make it viable. You could of course get a 4K monitor to go with it, but you’d need to spend at least £800 on that screen as the 3080 is a 4K 144Hz card. If that’s a bit much and you’re more likely to get a 4K 60Hz monitor, the 3070 would be the right card to go with it.

There endeth the sermon 😜

Hi Ben. The 3080 is still overpowered for your 1080p monitor. The motherboard and cooler are also inadequate for the CPU.

So to sum up... my advice hasn't changed from yesterday... I requested the mods merge this thread with your other so that everyone can see the journey that the prospective build is taking.

It appears I have pasted in the wrong build. Very sorry. I took your advice from yesterday and upgraded the the cooler to the platinum option. I will also be getting a 4k monitor in the future. I posted this mainly just to triple check before I click the buy button, and make sure everything is in check. Also, about the motherboard; I'm not sure how the motherboard is inadequate for the CPU. When I search online it says that it is recommended for that CPU. Yet I trust your word and kindly ask for any alternative better options.
Again, thankyou for your time.
