i7 turbo boost

Hi guys, just a couple of questions i hope somebody can ansawer for me.
I have a Optimus II with i7-2630qm processor, no matter what i do i cannot get it to run above 2001Mhz and i know this processor has turbo boost. ( i tried having a virus scan running, ie open, chrome open and 4 games running, power mode to always on and still only had 2001Mhz) Looking around the internet i have read i should have a program called "Intel Turbo Boost Technology Monitor 2.0". which i dont have. (looked in Control Panel and select "Administrative Tools". When in Administrative Tools select "Services". Locate "Intel Turbo Boost")

so my questions are

1) is it correct you need this program for the turbo boost to operate?
2) where on the drivers/programs disk is this program, i found the intel rapid storage technology but not turbo boost monitor?

I opted for the Intel 2 channel hd audio, why in the hardware tab does it show 2
Intel(R) Display Audio
Realtek High Definition Audio

and does anybody else have quiet sound, my laptop sits next to a compaq that was nearly a third of the price of this one, if i have my volume on max and the compaq on 50% i cannot hear this one.

Thanks
Chris

Remeber that turbo boost is only used under certain conditions such as:

1. Heat below a certain threshold level
2. Current consumption below a certain threshold level
3. Power consumption below a certain threshold level
4. Number of cores in use

Therefore if you are using all four cores then the CPU will stay at the standard clock speed of 2.0GHz, if however you are using a program/application that is using only one of the cores (and the temperature is not to high) then the CPU will increase its speed up to 2.9GHz. Therefore what you are doing (running multiple programs) will not force the CPU to increase its speed because the programs will probably be using all the cores. Hope this helps explain a little. Also how are you checking if turbo boost is working? I would recommend using intels tool found here.

You may need to install some drivers from the driver CD in your welcome pack.

Does the info in these links help at all?

Optimus II question....sound

Touchpad info

Disclaimer: I don't have this laptop, so just pointing you to a couple of threads that may be of interest to you. I don't know if they apply in your case for sure....but hope they help.

Hi and thanks for the tips.
I was using 'all cpu monitor', i am now using 'intel turbo boost monitor' and that show it to be working correct. Also thanks for the explanation on how boost works.
As for the sound, all drivers have been installed and i followed the advice on these forums but still quiet, might have to invest in some decent speakers.

Regards
Chris

If nobody can come up with any other suggestions for your sound issue, then maybe it's worth giving PCS a ring when you get time, just incase it's something simple that can be sorted out over the phone. It would be a shame for you to not have full enjoyment from your new purchase. As you don't seem overly bothered, just ring them when you have the mood, even if it's in a few weeks.

All the best.
