I used to be indecisive, but now I am just not sure!

Well a few months back when I first started to look for a replacement for my dell 13inch laptop (and discovered PCS) things were quite simple, as I had a clear budget of 800GBP and was looking at an Optimus 15inch laptop configuration.

Then to my surprise I got a 300 quid tax rebate- woot! and I could push my laptop budget up and then my indecisions began!

I was then thinking of a Vortex II 15inch laptop and was quite happy with the choice when someone mentioned about the Skyfire 17 inch. So I have been weighing up the pros and cons of 15 vs 17 inch laptop for a while now and also waiting for the Skyfire to come back into stock.

Although I am not totally convinced myself in getting a 17inch laptop, due to the weight and size, my circumstances have changed and I don't travel as much as I used to so the larger laptop top should not pose too many issues. Then to add to "my pain" of making a decision the Vortex III comes out of the "box". This laptop configuration would probably push my budget higher again to 1.2k and is still achievable, but is pushing my "boundaries" of what I would pay for a new laptop.

This week to add further pain to my indecisiveness I read on the forums about the Sandy Bridge and the new Ivy Bridge Intel chips and the release at the end of the month.

With so many choices available Vortex II, III Skyfire, and numerous releases being made and an ever expanding budget (to a certain) point has made it an interesting few months, but is now making my head hurt!!!!!!

I wonder how many other people are in the same position as I am at the moment?:wacko::wacko:

Just to throw another one in there, Would you consider a desktop? You can get a awesome desktop for 1200 quid! even less to be honest!

Yevad im exactly where you are.

For the past 3 months i have been browsing and specing both laptops and desktops and have lost count of how many times i have used the configuration!
Im sure regulars on the forum have been getting frustrated with all my random posts about this and that by now! haha

I started off looking at the Skyfire, i personally think the design looks pretty cool and is nice to stand out. Then i found desktops, and looked at those for a good month or so and came to the conclusion that if it is possible a desktop is by far superior, both in terms of value for money, upgradability, survivability, quality, performance (the list goes on). The only positive of a laptop is mobility as far as i can see!

I am now at the point where i have decided that for me personally (being at uni and traveling between mums+dads house when not at uni) a laptop will be more realistic. I am currently waiting on the Skyfire II to be released and will then have a long hard look at all the laptops and see what is best for me!

I think its all down to individual preference, what suits your lifestyle.

Well i used to have a desktop, and we do have a room which is used for an office. But this is used for my wife's business, so she would not really appreciate me "sharing the room" when she is working.

I think I have become so used to having the mobility of a laptop these days, the thought of losing that has not been under consideration. Also its useful have the flexibility to move it around the house when the kids need to use it for their homework etc.

I think I am coming down onto the Skyfire II side of the fence on this decision too, as this will still give me some money spare on my budget for software /mouse etc. But I am still willing to review whats available at the time. However I am not sure if PCS will have Skyfire II in stock at the same time the new Ivy Bridge chip comes out!

OMG- PCS do not make decision making easy lol.

Just when I convince myself of getting a 17insh Skyfire (and maybe waiting for the Ivy bridge chip) they announce a price drop on the Vortex II 15 inch. ARGGGGGG!

I think I will still go for the skyfire II due to the better graphic card, as the 580 on the vortex II blows my budget.
