I s the GTX460 and compatible with the ASUS P8H67-M mobo?

Just ordered a new pc from PCS.

Would like to check if Asus P8H67-M mobo is ok with GTX460 as I know that the GTX460 has compatibility problems with some mobos.

Thanks.

I've never heard of compatability issues between motherboards and graphics cards - as long as the board has the right interface it will work. I think you may have been looking at some people saying that the longer cards currently being produced make cooling more difficult or that the double-height GTX 460 overhangs other slots.

You say that you "know" there's a problem - can you say what the problem is, if you've first hand experience of it or where you heard about it.

This is also news to me, what problems are you referring to?

AFAIK there are no general problems with the 460.

Thanks for the swift replies. I saw this post on the Nvidia forum entitled:

The Nvidia 400/500 series lockup club! Have a Fermi based card that's locking up/blackscreens? Welcome!

but if you say there's no general probs with the 460 then that's good enough for me. I actually ordered a pc from PCS because I was so impressed with your replies and obvious hard work on this forum, Gormon...they should pay you lots more money! ty

I wouldn't put too much faith in that source. He labels it a "compatability problem" and then says it happens with "the vast majority of mainboards" from every major manufacturer. Both he and other contributors then making totally bizzarre generalisations such as claiming that it must be down to the motherboards' BIOS - despite the fact that every board is different. He even highlights the fact that at least some of those complaining had flashed other manufacturers' BIOS or changed slot voltages. Apart from the obvious dangers of doing this, I'd bet real money that the sort of person who does that has their whole system overclocked and so non-standard as to be pretty-well unstable - except in a few benchmark tests.

On top of that, the writer of that post has lumped all "problems with XYZ" posts together as if they all have a common source - no mention of whther or not the same people have other issues or even whether they installed the correct chipset drivers before installing the graphics card drivers. Also, you need to realise that all "GTX 460"s are not the same - they are manufactured by a lot of different companies and some - like Palit - have completely redesigned the circuitboard. The chances of them all having the same problem are incredibly remote.

The GTX 460 is very highly regarded as one of the best cards ever released at it's mid-point price-range. It's a best seller and if there really was a widespread problem, the brown-stuff would have hit the fan in the international IT press and on every IT related forum. As it stands, you have one disgruntled person stirring up that forum with illogical arguments and a few others calling themselves the "Lockup Club" fueling the flames. Sadly, that sort of thread is common on manufacturers' support forums.

Could possibly be that the people writing the thread claiming all these problems are avid ATI users, and want to discredit Nvidia cards as much as they can

Ah yes i see now.

As suggested above i would take that with a pinch of salt.

I have owned a fermi card since launch and not seen anything like that on my personal PC nor have i come across it in my day to day dealings with fermi.

Fermi rocks, nice and solid.

Ive already posted countless times about the blackscreen/ lockup. Its an issue with the Nvidia HD Audio drivers, either disable them in device manager (they arent even needed) or download the newer driver version, e.g. 260.99 where it lets you chose WHAT to install, click custom, and de-select the HD Audio drivers, install everything else. This should fix both blackscreen and lockup when on the "Welcome" screen where the spinner just freezes.
