I cannot tolerate this noise any longer

my PC makes a high pitched noise but

when i scroll down on the mouse it stops, after I scroll it comes back

what the hell is going on?

somebody on another site said interference of some kind but I don't know.

It's starting to hurt my ears.

My Mum said she can't hear anything, but I know that as you get older the hairs in your ears which pick up high pitched noises die out and your frequency range lessens, but I can hear it clear as day.

I dont know what exactly it may sound like but i've come across a similar high pitch noise before from a family friends pc. That was due to a not very well built or badly/faulty psu when examined and heard the noise coming from it.

Have you checked where exactly this noise is coming from? you should check where inside your pc it is coming from. Does this happen when you just scroll the mouse wheel over anything or any program?

it is coming ffom the hard drive

i don't know if it's normal but it also makes loud crackling noises

maybe this is why when i boot up my pc it says marvel something no hard disk detected

the high pitched noise is definitely coming from the hard drive, guess i will have to rma it right? great..........

i got a roll of kleenex, put it up to my ear and scanned the pc with the case off, definitely the hard drive.

The marvel no disk detected message is normal :) you wouldnt need to worry on it. you can disable the marvel controllers if its annoying you but you shouldnt be :).

If its certainly from the drive then consider an rma as you have said. you just rma the drive. you dont have to rma the whole pc.

sounds good! kind of,

the hard drive also makes weird noises, I can't explain it, like crackling but hard crackling, maybe you will know what I mean, weird hard drive data like it's talking to itself in morse code, that kind of weird, struggling noise.

And now the front fan is going crazy, made reallllly weird noises like my old PC did. groaning noises when it was going round as if it was hitting something.

and look, the bottom right of the front of the case is loose, great the case wasn't even fitted properly...

in the meantime I guess I'll put in my 6 year old 80gb hard drive and put windows 7 onto that! no idea how long an RMA will take

im glad its the harddrive and not PSu or GPU, that would really annoy me.

i know people said to get the caviar black drive as they are more reliable.

i dont know the price difference but maybe I will get one of those instead.

I don't know how much noise the standard drives make but the caviar blacks do make a bit of noise nothing that bothers me but you might not like them.

hmm guess I won't go for it then.

Plus, who the HELL would make something that makes a painful noise as standard?

I understand that some things are just like that but then WHY were they made like that?

I just hope this is a dodgy drive and not all are like this, either way I have the grounds to RMA it.

''The Sale of Goods Act 1979 (as amended) says that goods should be:

Of a satisfactory quality - The goods should be free from minor defects,''

Now I put that there because I was reading one guy who got a plasma TV and it was humming very loudly, he sent it back, received two more after sending another back and they were all the same.

now, if anyone can send back a brand new product within the law of the sales of goods act WHY ON EARTH do things like this continue to be manufactured?

Now I must listen to some music as this noise is burrowing it's way into my ears and actually causing me PAIN

Well tbh all HDD's make noise thats just what you get with mechanical drives and the caviar black are more of a performance drive so extra noise can sort of be expected.

oh right, but what kind of noise, mechanical noise, or ear piercing noise which is only interrupted when i scroll my mouse?

HDD's do make noise, depending on the model. The caviar black drive is probably fine to be honest. Cant say for the other noises you are experiencing.
