How much to charge for licensing one photo?

A question about the financial business side of photography.

My first steps into 'rights managed'.

Inspired by a friend wishing to license one of my photos for use on his website for one year.

Price to charge?

Q. Anyone have any guides to price structures, legal forms etc for rights managed??

Example: I know Getty Images have offered £400 per shot they want from Flickr.

Hello, CMStorm.

Pricing depends a lot of the situation. If you feel comfortable with whatever your friend offers for you, and photography is more of a hobby for you than a job, then you should just accept whatever your friend offers. If you think of photography as your profession, then you should check how others price their photos. If there is an "industry standard" pricing program it is FotoQuote. It does cost $149,99 (about £93,63), but there is a free demo available of it to give you a bit of taste of what the program is about.

Hope this helps you at least a little.

I know its been a couple of months, however, in case it may be useful:

I licensed images from I stock photo and shutterstock, it might be worth looking at their websites to help you get an idea of value.
