High pitched cracking noises? Optimus IV

Basically my laptop is making high pitched crackling? noises and I don't know what they are or if they're a problem.

Firstly the sound originates from the right hand side of my laptop below the keyboard. I would post recordings of the sound but I've tried a variety of ways and none of them are able to record the sound no matter what I do. The sound isn't due to my battery as this happens whether my battery is in or if it isn't. It doesn't appear to be my GPU as if I disable it the sounds still happen. I have a SSD not a HDD. The fans appear to be operating fine but I'm not sure whether this is the problem so I've ordered some compressed air. The laptop operates perfectly fine for games or anything I'm doing apart from this godawful noise that would destroy my ears if I didn't have my headset on.

Anyone got any ideas?

Is there anything you can liken the sound to? Somebody posted a pic of the Optimus IV innards under the keyboard and all that's there is the wifi card.

Have a look inside the bottom and see if anything is physically amiss. Actually I have a feeling something has been sucked into the fan and is rattling around, would make sense anyway.

Good luck. :)

That's the only thing I can think of also so I'm going to try using compressed air when it arrives and see if that fixes it. If not I'll probably have to open it and see if there is anything noticeably wrong.

If you're happy enough to go in it's pretty easy.

Make sure the laptop is off and the battery is removed.

There is a long panel on the underside held on with 3 screws, remove them and put them somewhere safe.

Slide then lift the panel off.

From left to right, you should have:

2ND HDD slot , RAM, CPU, GPU then the fan.

If you have a steady hand and a small phillips head screwdriver you can remove the screws holding the fan cover on, (this would also make it easier to clean, but I'd advise strongly against it as you only want to remove the cover to check if anything is inside the fan assembly.) You can actually clean a laptop vent without even needing to remove anything.

Hope this is helpful.
