High End Gaming PC

I'm looking at getting a high end gaming PC to replace a 5 year old laptop for games like Baldur's Gate 3, Elder Scrolls Online, Civilization 6 (and 7 when I get a PC that can run it) and Valheim. I posted early in January and was advised to wait and I'm glad I did, this came out cheaper and I think better that what I chose then.

I want a system capable of playing any of the latest games on high settings with good performance, and will last a long time (6-8 years ideally), with upgrades to RAM or the graphics card if necessary. I've gone for a larger power unit that the 850W recommended in an attempt to futureproof it. Max budget is £3,500. I've already got a MSI Optiix MAG274QRX (27", 2K, 240Hz) monitor for gaming, probably going to get a second monitor for discord etc. What do you guys think of this build?

If it’s only for gaming the. I’d say you’re wasting money of the CPU, motherboard, and SATA SSD.

If you include the link from the bottom of your config, I’m sure someone will help you tweak it.

Thank you, I've added the link to the post.
Is the only issue with those parts overspending? Considering I'm under budget, I'm not too concerned with that, especially if it will allow me flexiblity in the future. I had been looking at the 9800X3D but I chose to go with 9950X3D because I thought it might perform better in games that are more CPU intensive like Civilization?

I don‘t know about Civ7, but Civ6 turns didn’t seem to improve past about 4 cores…and core frequency made as much difference after 3 cores...but if the budget is allocated then there’s no harm in having the 9950X3D…but it might sit there doing very little.

Here are my tweaks, keeping the key CPU/GPU choices you made…

Case
FRACTAL NORTH TG XL GAMING CASE (BLACK)
Processor (CPU)
AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D 16 Core CPU (4.3GHz-5.7GHz/128MB w/3D V-CACHE/AM5)
Motherboard
GIGABYTE X870E AORUS ELITE WIFI7 (AM5, DDR5, M.2 PCIe 5.0, Wi-Fi 7) - similar level to the Asus Crosshairs, but a little cheaper and don’t seem to have the RAM compatibility issues we’ve seen on some of the Asus boards
Memory (RAM)
32GB Corsair VENGEANCE RGB DDR5 6000MHz CL30 (2 x 16GB)
Graphics Card
16GB GIGABYTE RADEON™ RX 9070 XT GAMING OC - 2 x HDMI, 2 x DP
1st M.2 SSD Drive
1TB CRUCIAL T705 GEN 5 M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD (up to 14,500MB/sR, 12,700MB/sW) - VERY fast gen5 primary drive for Windows, apps, games launchers only
1st M.2 SSD Drive
4TB CORSAIR CORE XT MP600 NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD (up to 5000 MB/R, 4400 MB/W) - slightly slower gen4 (but more than 10x faster than the SATA one you had)
Power Supply
CORSAIR 1200W HXi SERIES™ MODULAR 80 PLUS® PLATINUM V2 - the budget is there, so this would be my choice, and gives you the headroom for a beast of a 4k GPU in 3-5 years time
Power Cable
1 x 1.5 Metre UK Power Cable (Kettle Lead, 1.0mm Core)
Processor Cooling
CORSAIR ICUE LINK TITAN 360 RX LCD RGB HIGH PERFORMANCE CPU COOLER
