Help with new laptop Recoil III vs Vortex IX

Hi. Never had laptop always owned pc. Now after redecorating I lost my gaming room so my only option is laptop. I would like to connect my laptop sometimes to our Samsung UE40NU7120 4K TV. I can’t decide between recoil III or Vortex with G SYNC. I’m not big gamer. I play only Diablo 3, WOW.
My budget is somewhere around £1400 but can stretch to £1600

Both of these models have HDMI out, so you'll be able to wire them directly into the telly. Just get the better paste on the Vortex if you go down that route.

It's a personal preference, but I'd always go for G-Sync, it eliminates screen tearing, on the laptop screen, not the TV, but it's down to your tolerance on that matter.

I know you're paying a premium for that, but it becomes more evident the older the machine gets, WoW will still bring a latest line rig to it's knees if you crank the FoV and Shadows to max, so you'll see some yards from it. If tearing doesn't bother you, you can save some cash and go for the Recoil, but there isn't much between them, the CPU jump from 8xxx to 9xxx isn't anything that will define the lifecycle of those PC's.

I agree with Pokkai that it's personal preference.

The Recoil is 17.3" and cheaper. The Vortex has gsync.

What size screen do you want? If you don't care, then maybe the Vortex for Gsync. If you really want 17.3", the Recoil is a solid choice.

In terms of comparing the specs, bear in mind you have very different storage selected for each chassis.

The Recoil with the same storage as the Vortex above is £1550, so the Vortex is "only" £100 more, rather than £230 more. And, conversely, you could bring the Vortex's price down a lot by going with cheaper storage.

You don't need a 1TB SSD for these games. A 500gb SSD would be generously more than enough for those and Windows. You can have an HDD for mass storage.

And/or you could buy a cheaper model of SSD than the 970 Evo.

Do you think I should spend more and go for 2070 instead 2060? Will I benefit in any way with more expensive graphics card?
Laptop will be used only in our house so size, weight is not a issue.

After thinking for few minutes i’m leaning towards vortex because of g sync. Will see.

They are fairly similar - and for gaming the performance will be the same. WD Black was a bit cheaper.

It's possible a 2070 will benefit you if you want to play WoW at 4k on the TV and push the settings higher. But it's not really useful for 1080p gaming, and you may feel it is too expensive.

If you don't need a laptop, then a PC is often a better choice, because you can upgrade the hardware in the PC. So in a few years if you want a new graphics card you can just replace the graphics card in the PC. Whereas with a laptop, you need to buy a new laptop for a new GPU.

The PCs that are called "mini" PCs are not always a great idea, because they have a lot of compromises versus regular PCs - and often are not very much smaller.

You can actually find 'normal' PCs with cases not much bigger than 'mini' PCs, but that have more features / upgrade options.
