Help with new gaming pc

Hi everyone, I’m looking at getting a high-end gaming pc for around £2000 that I can also use for video and sound editing that will last 5 or so years.

I had thought about going with a Intel Core i7 Quad Core Processor i7-7740X (4.3GHz) 8MB Cache because I’ve read a lot of games still don’t take advantage of multiple cores. Also not sure whether to go with ASUS ROG STRIX X299-E instead of ASUS TUF X299 MARK 2 GAMING.

There was also another spec I was thinking of that had a ASUS X99-A II: ATX, USB 3.1, SATA 6 GB/s, with Intel Core i7 Six Core Processor i7-6850K (3.6GHz) 15MB Cache.

Any help with what would be best is much appreciated.

Why not the i7-7700k instead? It would be cheaper and probably allow you to fit a gtx 1080 ti

What monitor are you pairing it with?

What kind of balance would you say between gaming and video editing? 50-50?

The balance between gaming and video editing would probably be 75-25 although I might just keep using my mac and final cut pro x for video editing . Mainly it will be used for gaming.

For a 1080p monitor a GTX 1080 ti is just a waste of cash.

Also, some people find that 1080p looks better at 24" rather than 27" - 24" often seems to be considered the sweet spot for 1080p.

Thanks for the advice. I’m thinking of going all out and getting a ViewSonic XG2703-GS 27-inch WQHD IPS Gaming Monitor with G-Sync (65Hz 1440p) with this build. Any thoughts?

Why the Hero motherboard? What do you need that it offers but other ones do not? For instance one of the things it offers is support for liquid nitrogen CPU cooling. If you're not cooling your CPU with LN2...

The Z270E motherboard is already very expensive, has a pretty full set of features, and also includes 867mbps wifi and Bluetooth 4.1.

I'd suggest getting a pre-overclocked spec which you can configure here: https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/computers/intel-z270-overclocked/ as it costs almost the same and gives you an overclock covered under PCS's warranty.

The 1080 ti would do well with 1440p high refresh.

Sound Card
Asus Xonar DGX 5.1-Channel Gaming Audio Card
I would drop this. The motherboard already has 7.1 audio and the onboard audio is fairly decent quality. I'd certainly recommend auditioning the onboard audio first. If you decide you want something better, a USB DAC may be worth looking into.
