Help with build / cooling

It is time to update my pc, bought from PC Specialist, in, erm 2013... It's done a great job over the years (i7 4790k, gpu upgraded to a 1070 in 2016) but it is time for a new one.

I am keeping my current monitor for a bit longer - a Dell U2412M at 1920 x 1200. I do want to upgrade to a 1440 in the next year.

This is for gaming (Hitman 3 just whirs the fans so loud...), plus Photoshop for work and the occasional Premiere Pro project. Also Ableton and Kontakt 5.

I know little about cooling, and picked this one at random. Too much or too little? I do want to play Hitman 3 without any fan noise...

I have legacy HDDs with vast amounts of video and sound that could probably be culled, but that takes lots of time. Would like to bring over 2 x 4Tb and 2 x 8Tb 3.5 HDDs. Plus a newer 2Tb SSD which I am using for gaming.

Any comments appreciated!

We love you Ukraine
Sorry we missed this.

What I'd say is can you hold off until about September / October time as we've got basically every component coming out with next gen stuff around then, we're talking new CPU's in a whole new architecture, new motherboards with new connection types, new SSD's, and new GPU's. They're all set to be major improvements in performance.

You'll get a lot more power for the money if you hold on a couple of months.

Hello,

I am upgrading from an old (2013) system. I would like to carry over my 3.5 HDD drives (2 x 4tb and 2 x 8tb) and my old 5.25 DVD Drive, plus my 2tb SSD.

The Fractal Define 7 seems to have enough space for all of that, though it is a bit of a beast - couldn't find another case that would hold everything.

When it is being built, are the HDs and DVD going to interfere with the cooling system? How easy is it going to be to install my old pieces?

The build I am thinking of now:

Agree with @SpyderTracks above. It's awesome that you've got great usage out of your old system, but if it's still working well it doesn't make sense to upgrade now when we're getting big generational upgrades coming in just a few months.
If your current PC has bricked up that's a different situation, but if it's just starting to feel a little slow I would definitely recommend holding out. Your £2k will go a lot further on next gen hardware!

Thank you - I will wait til September / October (though am slightly worried that 2K will only buy a pocket calculator by then). I will still have the same questions about the case though!

The case is a solid choice. It’s what I have in my rig and it performs well. With headphones I can’t tell if it’s on, and I think with a little fan curve tweaking I can make it quieter still. You will want a strong AIO to look after temps as there is always a trade off in airflow when you go for a ‘quiet’ case, I would be looking at an H115i or H150i, especially when looking at Intel CPUs.
