Help on gaming desktop

Hi i want to purchase a gaming desktop from here but have no idea what to get. I have never putchased a desktop before i have always had laptops. I was iniatly going to buy a gaming laptop but you get more bang for your buck with gaming desktops. I would be grateful if some of you with more knowledge than me on desktops could recommend a spec. I am looking for a high end gaming setup that will be able to play all the latest games at high settings for years to come and also with a hdmi port so i can plug into a tv. My budget would be about 1200 but obviously would like the best price to performance possible

Good spec there from Vanthus. If you're not too concerned with an SSD you could drop that and up the GPU to a 680.

The build I suggested allows for adding another GTX 670 in future making it a bit more future proof and according to benchmarks there is very little difference in performance between the 670 and 680.An SSD isn't essential, but will speed up your system.

You're inadvertently making me reconsider my GPU choice...

My 670 is actually faster than a stock 680.

which monitor would you guys recommend

Do you want a 3D or 2D monitor? I'd say BenQ XL2420TX for 3D gaming, and BenQ XL2411T for 2D. Both are capable of 3D but with the 11T you'll have to buy a 3D vision kit separately, the 20TX has it included. Depends on your budget though. For gaming you will want a 120Hz + monitor either way.

No, unless you're going to be gaming over the two screens you won't need 4gb vram. I'd doubt you'll be gaming over two screens as this would put the bezel right in the middle of your view and it wouldn't look great.

2gb vram will be fine for most 3 screen applications too. Keynes has regularly said he has no issues playing 3d surround (three 3d screens) with his sli 2gb 680s.

Ok thanks. Do you think it would be worth waiting for the 700 series, also would the price of the 600 series drop once the 700 series is released?

Until they are release you won't be able to get a definite answer. I don't think the 600 series will drop in price when the 700 series is released.

Potentially not for your uses, it depends really I guess, if you want a 700 series card then yes but they will be more expensive. I'm not sure if the prices of the 600 series will drop once the 700 is released or if it'll take a wee while to filter through to be honest.
