Headphone socket not working.

Hi guys, took delivery of my new desktop today. Very pleased with it but the green headphone socket (front and back) appears not to be working. The microphone socket works but not the headphone. The headphones work if I plug them into the monitor so it's not the 'phones. Its the onboard sound of an ASUS A58M-E motherboard. do I need to click on something to 'turn' something on onscreen to get them to work?

I'd suggest reinstalling the audio drivers as well - my desktop arrived late last week and the headset I ordered didn't seem to have a working microphone (although the boom mic worked directly plugged in) - and I noticed another microphone I had had very poor pickup. Downloaded the latest Realtek audio drivers, rebooted, rebooted again (first one was to uninstall old drivers, second one to install new ones) and microphone pickup was massiveley improved and the headset now works.
