Has anyone got experience with receiving a refund for an RMA?

Hi folks! I was just wondering if anyone has experience with requesting a refund for a laptop which died while under warranty?

I purchased a laptop in May 2019 and the warranty for it was extended for free after posting a review of the machine on these forums, which then meant the warranty was valid until mid-August 2020. A few weeks ago, the laptop suffered a hardware failure out of the blue, turning it into a very pricey paperweight! I completed the RMA process straight away and the laptop is currently in an RMA queue with PCS, waiting to be looked at.

As the item was under warranty when it kicked the bucket, am I likely to be offered a refund by PCS once they have confirmed the fault? Or will it just be a repair? Their T&Cs do not seem to mention anything about a refund only being applicable within X period, and I'd expect the warranty to be handled the same for someone at the start of their warranty period compared to someone at the end of theirs. I can always try and sell it on after it is repaired too of course, but a refund would be ideal!

Any insight would be greatly appreciated :) thanks!

I think the right to a refund is slightly different to the whole warranty/repair issue.

PCS will cover the repairs of the laptop but I'd agree with @Nursemorph above that although they are obligated to repair the laptop (under its warranty) they're not necessarily obligated to offer a refund.

You've had the laptop for 15 months, don't you think you're asking a bit much to expect refund now? You've enjoyed it for all that time and now you expect to get your money back?! Consider yourself fortunate to have had the warranty extended when it was, at least the repair should be at no cost to you now.

I agree with Ubuysa. You should think that worst-case scenario would be a dead motherboard, which means you'll basically have a new PC after repair (apart from chassis, screen and smaller components).
