Hard drive getting too hot? Optimus V

Hey everyone
I have just started to use speedfan to monitor my laptops temperature. I have windows on an SSD and use a 750GB internal disk drive for data and programs. The 750GB hard drive appears to be running at around 52 C when idle...which seems a little high to me. Is this the normal operating temperature for a laptop hard drive? The fan comes on very loudly under almost no load also, I'm note sure is there some connection between the two.

Thanks.

What kind of surface are you using it on? if anything is blocking the vents/inlets then the whole system can run hotter.

52 degrees is just about alright, it depends on the ambient temperature. if you are in a freezing cold room with plenty of room for airflow then I would be concerned. if you are using it on a wooden table which holds the heat or on your lap so fabric obstructs it then 52 degrees isn't bad.
