Had to return

I have requested the RMA not tech support the reasons for this.

1) they keep going through logs telling me could be this causing the restart that or this and each time i try something i end up phoning back as it still does it.
2) the computer turns it self off and sometimes it will take a few tires or hours to get it back on as my CPU fan decieds it doesnt want to spin and my mobo will not allow my computer to boot if it doesnt detect the fan same with forcing it to turn off.
3) sometimes it won't even turn on after a 12 hour break because the CPU won't start but give it a few tries and BOOM it like my cpu says okay ill play for now.

Again I am sure given enough time / call /days we could of figured out the restart( could be a faulty ram) issue but the CPU fan havin mood swing i.e I will spin today or I won't I can't see a software soloution as to me it sounds like something is either blocking the power getting to it at times or the CPU faulty.

If it wasn't a big problem i wouldnt mind waiting for tech support to pin point the cause but because I can't even guarentee 20 mins on the computer I rather it be sent over and checked head to toe than looking at a few logs and guessing what the issue may be.

I can't fault PCS support but I rather they take a look and get the job done quicker. Than guessing and hoping from the logs. I mean if I had of requested the RMA that saturday it already be with you guys being tested and possibly on it way back soon but because I waited it will only be going tomorrw.

I just hope the Package is secure enough re used the PCS package.....But had to put in the monitor box as well as it was carrying both the case and monitor in the box so had to full the gap. Looks secure with the foam case and carboard at the sides and the monitor box at top but I always get nervous when Sending something back......I don't trust Delevery services espically with my luck. less than a week old PC and sending it back for repair.......I can see it now package was lost.

As long as the outer box is filled with the padding and other boxes - so the PC can't move around - it should be very safe. The outer boxes PCS use are very strong and the PC itself is several inches from the box on all sides so it would take a hell of a knock to get anywhere near the PC. You did the right thing putting the the empty box in - it'll absorb impact by compressing the air inside. In fact, if the original order hadn't filled the box - like mine which was just the PC - they would has filled the top with a large, empty box for that reason. Just avoid packing anything solid around the PC itself - air-space is the best buffer and anything harder won't compress - it would just push against the PC.

I suppose the PC could be damaged if the box was dropped from a fair old height or if someone attacked it with a pick-axe but no amount of padding can give 100% protection. I'm not about to test the theory but I reckon you could give that box a hefty kick without harmog the contents. Even if the unthinkable happens, DHL would have to cough up. If you are really nervous, take photos of the PC as you pack it and seal the box - maybe do what kidnappers do in the movies and include a copy of today's newspaper (or even a new, dated post on this forum) in the photo. It would make for useful proof that the PC was intact when you handed it over to the courier if you did need to make a claim.

If it helps, I'm having pretty much the same concerns as I'm packing mine to return.

Just thought I'd drop a line.

As long as you use our original box and don't cut it down you'll be fine, really no need for padding unless you want to. The majority of customer use the big box and the top box, but I've seen may systems arrive back fine with just the big box and end caps.

Should it be damaged in transit and it is in our original packaging your covered by our insurance with DHL and we'll sort it out.

Good luch with shipping and I'll see your PC's when they land.

unfortunately my PC has been back several times :whistling: in the original packing and has always been fine, you'll always get the odd bad courier driver but the boxes are very sturdy, wouldn't get too stressed about the transport.

I cannot even begin to express how important this point is.

Always use our packaging as its insured when you do, if anyone doesnt have it anymore then you can get more through the call centre.

I think they charge around £20 to replace the large box and supply everything else needed to keep the machine safe and most importantly insured.

Theres not much in a PC that the courier can smash that costs less than £20.

Hmmmm............. & FWIW.

I'm a new PC Specialist Customer. Ordered a couple of days-ago.

However I had more-or-less the same PC problem with my current Branded 6 years-old PC.

After many weeks of trial & error, I replaced the PSU - Problem solved.

If I cut around all the tape on the box, will it collapse flat so I can store the box somewhere? The missus is getting fed up with it just sitting in the bedroom :sleep1:

I want to store it in the attic or somewhere, but it won't fit through the hatch without folding it.

Hope I never need it (until I win the lotto :clover: and move to a bigger house), but want to keep it just in case.

P.S. Sorry to hear about your problems guys...hope it's sorted soon.

Yup, if you cut the tape the box will return to its original "flat-packed" state for easy storage in the attic or under the bed etc.

I just Like to give an update appeartly the fault was the GPU and according to my email it went into quality control for 20 mins and is being shipped back to me now. I really didn't think the GPU could cause random restarts and intermittent POST well guess i learnt something new

I have seen this a few times, i guess its a lot more common for a gpu fault to be the memory on the card and it be a lot less dramatic than in this case.

Hi,

The into quality control status is wrong. It has been like that on RMA's for quite a while. QC is passed prior to filing of the fault report and then get put into holding ready for dispatch. 20mins wait in dispatch is quite quick sometimes they sit there for a few hrs or even overnight.

Enjoy the system when it arrives back.

Also regarding the GPU fault, It is becoming more and more common for them to fail in this way.

I kinda guessed that with the email as the same thing happen when it was getting built as it went from built to quality in 10 mins which I was like thinking speedy builders.

The gpu I would never have guessed even if it common or rare as i would of thought the drives would of said a propblem with the device or seen some sign of graphic problem. I was so sure you would of said CPU. But like I said I learnt something new with graphics card.

Either way I appricate the time and effort taking to solve the problem and the speed of the response I wasn't expecting word back till atleast friday never mind being shipped today (RMA arrived monday).

I can't wait to get it now to play RIFT ( I am such a geek).

Thought it might be the PSUhttp://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?4167-Had-to-return&p=39486&viewfull=1#post39486

Reading this im getting a really bad feeling that i didnt keep the original box :|

mines still sitting here in the room with everything in it. because i just know that when i put it away i will be asked to return it if they cant figure out this screen tearing issue tomorrow. i dont want to have to drag out this heavy sodding unit and lug it all the way down the stairs :(

on another note, GL to the op with your pc when you get it back :D must admit the support from PCS has been nothing but excellent, just a shame i have to experience it a lot since i got the pc.

Got the PC back last week been playing it steady. No problems since return so far. Have they say they did a good job.

@ Nemisis
I wouldn't worry about my post it was unlucky i got a faulty card but if i built it my self and ordered the part from say overclockers I might of gotten a faulty graphics card as well it was just luck or bad luck. They were very quick to resolve my issue yes it was a pain sending a machine 2 days old back but it happens.
