Gotham Garage - Any car fans watch it?

I love watching all things mechanical, especially relating to petrol. I've watched most of this show and the more I do... the more confused I become.

Am I the only person that thinks their work is absolutely awful? I watch for the entertainment and never the inspiration. Even their basic work I see as being very basic and low end. Each interaction seems set up as I don't believe people would actually pay the money for these monstrosities.

I just watched an episode with a 308 GTS (the one from Magnum). The idea was to surprise a guy for his birthday by imitating the 308 from Magnum itself. It ended up nothing like the original and they actually hacksawed parts off of the main structure at the front to make the oversize wheel/tyre combo fit. There are so many issues it's difficult to put into words without running over the character limit.

The last part was creating a mechanism to rotate the license place like a James Bond car. He did it with a door popper and it never hit the right alignment once, yet everyone cheered for how inventive it was.

Orange peel paint, gaps in the bodywork, increasing overall running circumference of tyres by up to 50%, it's all just wild to me.

Oh.... they spray painted the 308 without even taking the headlights out :ROFLMAO:

Yet still I watch! Am I alone?

I don't think I've seen any of those Discovery-channel type of programmes that have really done a good job. Especially ones like Orange County Customs, Pimp My Ride, Wheeler Dealers, Overhauling, Kindig Customs, West Coast Customs, et al.

They all seem to be artificially 'scripted' to build up tension and arguments between the staff...and what comes out at the end either looks awful or looks like it's been in 'remediation' for a few months after they supposedly completed it.

Absolutely..... can you believe that I think most of those shows are miles in front in build quality though (and they have a low bar set for the most part). They at least seem to remove or at least mask up headlights when they are painting :ROFLMAO:
