Good Monitor?

I've noticed people posting their builds without a monitor included. I don't have one currently, so would be looking for one for gaming, what would you recommend?
I don't know very much about monitors (used to having laptops), so any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

seconded- what is the appreciable difference between the 2ms 22 inch and the 22 inch iiyama (apart from price lol). Thanks

e2a: I notice the iiyama has hdmi, does that mean it has speakers built in?

The best option would be buying 22'' to 24'' monitor with 2-5ms response time and make sure its resolution it something like 1900x1200, and you could also get one of the LED ones they are really slim. I got an LG m2280D but its also a tv so it was a bit more expensive than just a pc one, and you could possibly get a better for a lower price.

No HDMI is just a high quality display format, unless the product details of the monitor say it has built in speakers then you should assume that it hasn't got any.
Apparently there is no discernible difference to the untrained eye between 2ms and (for instance)5ms.

Is your monitor led bg92?
I've got the LG 2362D which isn't led, i can't seem to get the brightness/contrast to a level i find comfortable - light colours are really glary, probably i'm just not used to having a good monitor lol.
Don't suppose you could give me some idea of what settings you have got yours at?

Seconded. Even the trained eye will have a hard time telling apart 2, 5 and 8ms. Any of these will be absolutely fine for gaming.

Yea my monitor is LED, I did have to play with the settings to get it right. And as my monitor is different I don't think that my settigns would really help you . But if you want them here they are
Picture mode : game
backlight 60%
contrast 90%
brightness 50%
sharpness 60%
colour temperature W30 meaning warm 30%
gamma high

Cheers bg92, have set mine to the same apart from the sharpness, it's certainly got rid of the glare.

Thanks everyone, really helpful :)

This probaby sounds a bit dumb, but my current laptop resolution is 1080p and it looks great (if only the processor/graphics card was better), is 1900x1200 a higher resolution?

Yes, 1920x1200 is bigger than 1080p (given its 1920x1080), but not by a lot.

1920x1200 is a higher resolution than 1920x1080 but all that translates to is a slightly taller screen, there's no difference in quality.

The best monitor for your build depends on the spec of your build as well as its purpose.

The best monitor in the world for gaming might be 2x the price you need to pay for your needs.

Likewise the resolution your Monitor is displaying could be both too much for you desired res and settings, or the other way, and wasting your entire system.

i recommend getting the apple cinema display its the best by far. Actually dont get a pc and get a imac with a 27' screen you cant beat it 2560x1440 with a IPS screen and you get a quality computer stuck on the back!!!
