So I have been doing a quite alot of research in the build up to buying this new Pc and am looking to spend £1,350.

I am a working music producer but I also have a massive interest in gaming, so this computer is primarily for music but I believe its a huge upgrade from my previous system (amd phenom ii x6 1055t + Hd 5870, 450w Psu, 8g Samsung ram).

Basically chose the Intel cpu for its more multi-core support, as the software I use takes full advantage of it (Ableton live, Pro tools, reason and a whole load of vst's + plug-ins etc....)

Looking to crossfire the 7970 in the future and in the distant future maybe overlcock the cpu, so I will upgrade the cpu cooler and maybe the psu but it believe the 750W Corsair should be sufficient.

Let me know what you think, am always willing to take advice ;-). Much appreciated.

Looks good! Can't see much except maybe save money on the delivery. Also, your other pc doesn't sound that bad spec wise...is it slowing up on you or something?

Thanks Music guy, will hopefully last me a fair bit of time (2-3 years maybe). Unfortunately my old man is in need of a new pc quickly so I am kinda doing him a favour by giving him my old system, (gosh I'm such a nice guy haha :D) Also need the new Pc for work really so it makes life alot easier if I am able to recieve it a bit sooner.

Old machine wasn't to bad except for i missed out on a vital point, it's made by Dell *cue horror film soundtrack*. Therefore means I can't upgrade it at all.

yeah looks ace mate,

only thing i'd do is get a different case, only cause i think the white corsair 500r looks a beast!!! and is not much more.

Really, I can't really fault the dragon rider for aesthetics. Have a look:

yea the white does look good, I just love the features on the 500r everything you can think of corsair have put in it! all over dust filters, inc bottom fan slot and psu, removable hard drive cages, you can even mount fans on the back of the cages as corsair have put little holes in for fan screws. excellent cable management too.

That case with a mod 750w psu would be mint!

Funny you should mention the case, I think the corsair is an awesome case just think the dragon rider edges it when it comes to size. Only because I will probably end up putting in the titan or another cpu fan cooler which are quite beastly. Think the only vital thing the dragon rider is missing (which I'm not 100% sure on) is a dust filter just below the psu unit. Also looks to me like its quite good value for money when balancing out size/space and fansizes.

If I had a little bit more, would love to get the coolermaster cosmos silent case, I mean it ticks about every box for me :).

the titan will fit easily in the 500r!

haha I know it will, but for some reason I have my mind set on the dragon rider. Lol probably because they just re-released it in a new colour. Do you get the extra cpu fan on the other side of the case on the corsair? I know it juts out on the DR case but can't seem to find whether the 500r has one.

Just to clarify something here, the 500r doesn't have a dust filter for the side intake fan.

You only need the k version of a cpu if you are going to overclock. I would recommend sticking with a 2600 but it is completely your choice.

Finally ordered at last should arrive by monday latest apparently so expect some pics up when it arrives. Ended up grabbing the titan cpu cooler because of the eventual oc'ing that i'll do on the i5-2000k. So I'm happy :).

Just a quick one on the future OC. If you do, it may be worth giving the cleaning off the thermal paste and reapplying some fresh paste in before the OC, just to help with the temps.

I'd get some Artic mx 4 or 5 paste, with some cleaner too, if ya interested in specifics let me know. :)

Yeah Tom's right about this, if you want an overclocked machine just let PCS do it though because if you break anything the warranty will not cover you.

Phoenix you are right about overclocking as it's risky with just about any processor, but my main priority with this machine is stability as it will be used mainly for the post processing of music (& production) and games (don't really need it oc'd for this unless its a total war game haha).
I will probably OC it to 4/4.2 ghz (in about 4-6 months) as there is no need for any higher clocks than that for the time being. Also I do have some experience Overclocking the i5 as i have done it previously albeit with a different chipset and I'm pretty sure one of my mates would be able to help me out if anything went wrong (which has happened before lol).

Reapplying a good quality thermal paste sounds like a good idea to be honest, so thanks for that heads up.:turned: *thumbs up to Tom*

Appreciated!
