GeForce GTX660 -- Setting up multiple monitors ?

Hi All,

I have one of the above cards in my PC (link included here)
http://www.geforce.com/hardware/desktop-gpus/geforce-gtx-660/specifications

Currently I'm running a single montior via a DVI output (not sure if it's the I or D) to a VGA converter and my current smallish monitor.

I plan to replace this small monitor with 2 of these -->

http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B005QVZ7...lid=13O0K4P6E2F2Q&coliid=I24OMQRLDCA1ZP&psc=1

I might strech to 3 -- depending on feedback here and of course budget.

It may seem a bit of a naive question but I believe this card can support upto 4 montiors from the stanard connectors on the card as -->

One Dual Link DVI-I
One Dual Link DVI-D
One HDMI
One DisplayPort

So my quesitons are -->

1) If I go with a 2 montior config which are the best connectors to use ? Both DVI's and do I need any special cables ?
bearing in mind the current cable I have is a DVI-? to VGA conveter ?

Or should I leave my current cable and just use HDMI on the 2nd monitor ?

2) If I do go with the 3 monitor config, I'm guessing it would be 2 x DVI connections and 1xHDMI (leaving the display port spare).

Again would be keen to know the best cableing options and/or order of plugging things in ?

I realise from the desktop I'd need to use the Nvidia config tool and have seen a couple of YouTube vids how to do this but they don't really touch on the physical set-up and cables.

Thanks in advance - sorry if I am being naieve just not had the luxery/option before to have multiple montiors.

Btw -- this is not for gaming, this is on a rig, used for General purpose and video editing and I basically need more screen real estate, hence why maybe 2 monitors would be enough.

Hope some one can help ?

Thanks

Simple answer, use whatever cables you need to. Based on GPU/Monitor support

Most modern monitors support HDMI and DVI, basically HDMI and DVI carry the same signal but HDMI also has the capability to carry sound. If you had speakers you wanted to use build into a monitor then use HDMI on that, other than that it makes very little difference.

That monitor says it has DVI, HDMI and VGA. I would discount VGA because the others are better. More of a backwards compatibility thing than anything else. So yeah use the pair DVI slots, stick the 3rd on HDMI if needed, job done.

OK many thanks for the quick answer on that.
So I will go with the two DVI ports direct to the montior and leave the HDMI (to HDMI), if I do decide to go with the 3rd montior option.

Again sorry if it's a dumb one -- I know I need a male/to male connection for the cable itself as both the card and montior have femaile connections.

Looking @ the pics it looks like one is an easy DVI-I (male) for PC and and the same DVI-I (male) to into the montior

On the 2nd DVI port - DVI-D -- do I need a DVI-D (male) for the PC to a DVI-I (male) for the montior or can I go DVI-D (male) to HDMI -- ?

Thanks again

Not sure I understand the question.

You could go for a DVI to DVI or a DVI to HDMI if you had a spare one for whatever reason. if your buying new I would just stick to DVI to DVI

You can use a DVI-D (male) to DVI-D (male) as DVI-D dual or single link(male) will fit into DVI-I dual link socket,

All the best.
