gaming with gtx580m 3d

As vortex 3d with gtx580m coming in pcspecialist in couple of days, I am really looking forward for it. However can gtx580m handle 3d vision for current games? I dont mind if I have to lower the resolution to 720p (after all it is 17inch screen with 1920x1080 which to me is a bit overkill). is there any benchmark for gtx580m running 3d game?

Can't see any benchmarks of the 580M in 3D vision mode - 3D vision does cut down of the FPS but the vast majority of people love 3D mode so much that the loss in FPS does not put them off.

right now I am still on the fence..... I really dont mind to lower the resolution from native 1080 to 720 as long as i can get playable fps with 3d vision. From what I heard, 3d vision will be less jaggy even without AA because switching frame between left and right eyes will overcome the jaggyness..However 50% fps drop is scaring me...I dont mind if I cannot play bc2 or bf3 in 3d....But I really want css, starcraft 2, tf2, black ops and mw3 to be in 3d (cause they are less demanding)...... However, I will still will order a laptop in a week time from pcspeaclist, just still couldnt decide whether to choose
a) gtx580m+3d screen or
b) 6990m+without 3d screen
If would definitely write a review and some benchmarking (maybe some pictures and videos) on the gtx580m 3d/2d comparison if I get some discount from pcspecialist lol XD. Not sure if that gonna help pcspecialist sale in the future though....

PS: u guys might be thinking, if i want 3d so much why wouldnt I just go and get a desktop? the reason is that I am a medical student and I travelled from 1 hospital to another every 4 weeks for placement.... So I cannot really bring my desktop each time I go for placement, atleast for another 2 years until I graduate.

Ok, here's a proposal for you.

Order the 3D vision laptop and as soon as you receive it test it on your desired game for a day or so. Don't remove any of the plastic protective film or scratch the laptop in any way. If you're not happy with the FPS - return it and we'll exchange it for the 6990M version. :)

Note:

1. Laptop must be 100% perfect, in original packaging with protective film still attached.
2. If you choose to return the laptop, there will be a lead time between returning the old model and receiving the new model, as you will be in a queue again.
3. You will need to cover return delivery costs.

To be honest, based on our feedback from other customers with 3D vision laptops, I'm pretty confident that you'll be very happy with the performance and won't wish to return to "normal" 2D gaming again!

Wow, Thats really great proposal.....now I am very tempted XD

just a few question,
a) cant I just use the 1 year collect and return from the silver warranty if I need to exchange it? However its not that big deal, if that is not possible I am still willing to cover the return delivery cost.
b)if i really need to pay for the return, would you recommend me to use the Yodel service like your company do? It seem that yodel only send parcel from bussiness company to customer and not from customer to bussiness company. I would really be grateful if you can give me some guide for me to return the item safely. reason being is that I never really send a parcel worth more than GBP100 let alone GBP1400+.

note:
1) if you want to discuss the matter privately please do pm me
2) what I would like you to guide me is what company to use, how much it cost, how many day I have for returning the item, safety advice when returning etc2

edit:
btw, if i buy the windows 7 together with the vortex3d, do i need to buy it again if i return for exchange?

1. The warranty covers for replacement parts in case of failure, not selecting different parts if you change your mind.

2. We can collect it for you, if it came to returning the laptop. Collecting costs are not too high.

3. Regarding Windows 7 - as long as you don't activate it there is no problem. However, we're only changing the GPU so it's not a big issue.

nice.....have to give some credit for the customer support there, dont delete this thread as I might quote this thread in review

1) can you give some rough idea how much it cost for returning (I live in cardiff)
2) about window 7, I do have an extra license for home 64bit given by university, I can activate it using that as that code as it is not used yet. Is it possible if you install the home64bit from your factory without activating it from your factory, reason being is that so that it will be much easier for me to start testing the laptop than having to install it first -->in other word:
a) you install windows without activating, I received laptop, activate using my university code, start testing game rather than
b) i received laptop, install windows using university cd, test game (I could save a day there if I need to return)
3) how much refund that I get when changing the gtx580m+120hz screen to 6990m+60hz screen ( i dont mind if the refund reduced a bit for the service to change the parts).

edit
1)for question 3, from my calculation, it seem that i will get a refund about GBP265 if I change from gtx580m+120hz back to 6990m+60hz. This is considering that gtx580m+120hz is GBP330 extra from gtx560m+120hz that you mention from the other thread. so, what will be the net refund if you minus:
a) return fee
b)service fee to change the card and screen

1. Roughly £12

2. We leave Windows 7 Home Premuim 64 bit installed by default if you do not order a licence. However, your licence may not nork with the OEM version that we install. You would need to check this and possibly re-install the operating system.

3. Regarding the price difference between the 580M and 6990M, we will have to calculate this at the time. Put together two quotes on our website and the difference should be the approximate refund.

i can buy in 2-3 days when my allowance come in.. another questions thought

1. if i do need to change 580m back to 6990m, do you change the screen from 120hz to 60hz back and remove the 3D glass IR transmitter as well? I dont mind if you dont change it because maybe someday when there is a new more powerful card in town that can do 3d vision better, I could just upgrade the card back..

2. regarding the windows 7, I wouldnt order the OEM, but can you just install it without activating it, if my university version not work with it, I can just reinstall the windows using my dvd.

oh btw: an alienware rep pm me this morning when he read our thread and he want to give me 10% discount if I buy from them. However, with my budget, I would still prefer pcspecialist (maybe because great customer support)

1. The whole laptop would be replaced. Hence the lead time.

2. We install it without activating it if you don't order Windows. it's for testing purposes and also to prove the laptop works out of the box.

3. Alienware - that's shocking. Please share this forum members username for all to see.

i think i prefer not to expose the username (just to keep my relation from both company good) lol...however, because I wont be needing the 10% discount voucher code, I would give away the voucher code. Just pm me and I am happy to pass the code.....I hope that code does not email bound...the code expires on 28.10.11

i might give a wrong info here,it is not a pm. Instead it is an email sent to me which I think the reason that the email (with the discount code) is sent to me is because I started this thread. I mean, why did I get an email for alienware discount this morning out of nowhere, why not yesterday or last week. So I might be thinking that it is related to this thread. So it might be related to this thread or might just that I am lucky XD. I am a previous customer of alienware thought (which might be the cause that they have my email). Although I would say that I didnt like their customer support. Thats why I said I hope the voucher is not email bound because I was contacted by email. I can expose the identity of the rep as long as I will be given guarantee that I will not in any way be included in this affair or legal problem or whatever dispute you guys might have

btw since the admin said that it is illegal to pass the code, I will now close the offer lol...just want to keep my record with pcspecialist clean

NOTE: i dont know the alienware rep ID, but i do know the email if you wish to investigate it

OR, the other reason that i think of is that last week I went to alienware website and quote a same spec of laptop and leave it as my wishlist. maybe that is also the reason that I get the voucher. So If the admin still think that this thread is the reason that I get the voucher, I am willing to cooperate by exposing the email. But dont include me in the dispute in any way cause I dont want any trouble

As it's not a PM from them, all is fine. I don't think the email you received was related to this thread, just a coincidence.
