Gaming PC with monitor/keyboard and mouse for circa £700-800?

Any advice on a spec for a workable gaming desktop for a 12 year old? Budget £700-800 ideally and needs to be usable for homework etc and for playing todays games.

Needs monitor and keyboard and a mouse also, which stretches the build budget a little.

Any pointers greatly appreciated.

If it's not urgent, or if they can wait for a late Christmas present, you might prefer to wait until early next year when Intel are expected to release more 8th Gen CPUs, and cheaper motherboard chipsets.

At the moment, the things at the cheaper end of the scale are still the older generation of motherboards and CPUs.

You could get something like this:

I put a decent starter keyboard and mouse combo in there, but you can probably get cheaper unbranded ones on Amazon etc.

PC Specialist's cheapest 24" 1920x1080 (aka 1080p) monitor is about £110, but you can get monitors like that for ~£80 on special offer on other websites if you shop around.

With the spec I posted above you could expect to play demanding modern games on pretty high settings. The case and PSU would support a range of upgrade options as well.

The main disadvantage is that the motherboard only supports 7th Gen CPUs, and the CPU is fairly weak. This means when you inevitably want to upgrade the graphics card, the CPU will hold the new GPU's performance back. And any CPU upgrade would either be from out of date CPUs, or require a new motherboard as well.

So if you can wait for the cheap stuff to be available from the 8th Gen CPUs and motherboards, you may prefer to do that. If you can't, a G4560 + GTX 1060 3gb is a powerful budget gaming combo.
