Ideally you'd want the 9800x3D CPU but that takes you over budget (can't put it in the spec as it's not in stock till later next month)...for your budget, the next best is the 7800x3D (the last gen version of it). Given he's playing shooters, I'd say 1440p Ultrawide would be the better level to be aiming at (pun intended ;) ):

Case
CORSAIR FRAME 4000D RS ARGB MODULAR - The Fractal is a decent case, this one is a bit better
Processor (CPU)

AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D Eight Core CPU (4.2GHz-5.0GHz/104MB w/3D V-CACHE/AM5) - As mentioned, the 9800x3D is the king of gaming CPUs....the 7800x3D was the king when it released
Motherboard

GIGABYTE X870 EAGLE WIFI7 (AM5, DDR5, M.2 PCIe 5.0, Wi-Fi 7) - ASUS have had their issues the last 2 gens so Gigabyte is a preferable option.
Memory (RAM)

32GB Corsair VENGEANCE DDR5 6000MHz CL30 (1 x 32GB)
Graphics Card
16GB GIGABYTE RADEON™ RX 9070 XT GAMING OC - 2 x HDMI, 2 x DP
1st M.2 SSD Drive
1TB SOLIDIGM P44 PRO GEN 4 M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD (up to 7000MB/sR, 6500MB/sW) - Here's the big difference. The Crucial is going to make almost zero difference for a gaming system and certainly not worth the extra. This drive is plenty quick enough
1st M.2 SSD Drive

2TB SOLIDIGM P41+ GEN 4 M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD (up to 4125MB/sR, 3325MB/sW) - Second drive for games to be stored on. Helps to have them separate if Windows needs reinstalling on the primary drive as then you don't need to re-download them all
Power Supply

CORSAIR 1000W RMx SERIES™ ATX 3.1, MODULAR, CYBENETICS GOLD - Best to spec over to account for any GPU upgrades several years down the road.
Power Cable

1 x 1.5 Metre UK Power Cable (Kettle Lead, 1.0mm Core)
Processor Cooling
CORSAIR NAUTILUS 240 RS ARGB HIGH PERFORMANCE CPU COOLER - PCS coolers are okay for very low end systems but they are an unknown brand (just a generic product badged as PCS). Better to go for a known, reliable entitiy to ensure optimal cooling on the CPU
Thermal Paste

STANDARD THERMAL PASTE FOR SUFFICIENT COOLING
Sound Card
ONBOARD 6 CHANNEL (5.1) HIGH DEF AUDIO (AS STANDARD)
Network Card
ONBOARD 2.5Gbe LAN PORT
Wireless Network Card
NONE OR ONBOARD Wi-Fi (MOTHERBOARD DEPENDENT)
USB/Thunderbolt Options
MIN. 2 x USB 3.0 & 2 x USB 2.0 PORTS @ BACK PANEL + MIN. 2 FRONT PORTS
Operating System
Windows 11 Home 64 Bit - inc. Single Licence
Operating System Language
United Kingdom - English Language
Windows Recovery Media
Windows 10/11 Multi-Language Recovery Image - Unlimited Downloads from Online Account
Office Software
FREE 30 Day Trial of Microsoft 365® (Operating System Required)
Anti-Virus
NO ANTI-VIRUS SOFTWARE - Removed Norton as it causes more problems than it solves and Windows Defender is more than enough.
Browser

Microsoft® Edge
Warranty
3 Year Silver Warranty (1 Year Collect & Return, 1 Year Parts, 3 Year Labour) - £5 for an extra 6 months of C&R is worth it
Delivery

STANDARD INSURED DELIVERY TO UK MAINLAND (MON-FRI)
Build Time
Standard Build - Approximately 7 to 9 working days
Price: £2,191.00 including VAT and Delivery

Thank you so much, that is really useful. How much more would the 9800 x3D be approx and is it worth waiting

The configurator shows the differnce at £96 so not that much. Worth waiting for? I'd say yes...the 7800x3D is an excellent CPU (I have one myself) but the 9800x3D takes it and improves performance significantly...not only that but it will have more longevity given it's 2 years younger.
