Gaming PC - just over £1000 budget?

Hey, basically I'm a complete newbie in terms of building a PC. I've had a laptop that has done me well for just over a year, yet I'm looking to get a PC in the near future mainly for gaming. I'd like to be able to play games on near enough max settings so looking for a top end Processor/graphics card, hopefully it would also be futureproof for a few years. I'd like to watch movies on it - so a blue ray player would be ideal - and also I shall be downloading games/browsing internet.


I'm starting to have a read on all the components, yet not really sure where to start. So would anyone be able to recommend me one with a budget of around £1200 maximum, but obviously the cheaper the better

Your needs sound similar to mine - i've been fiddling with specs for weeks now.
I've got 1 AMD based pc and 1 intel listed below, the AMD spec is a bit cheaper but i'm leaning towards the intel one as it seems more powerful from the reviews i've read.

Neither of these specs include a monitor (don't know if you needed one?) or a blu ray drive, but do have a top end graphics card and two HD's (you could manage fine with one HD to save a bit).
Also 4GB of ram seems to be the recommended amount for gaming according to most people on here but i've gone for 8GB in mine.

Great specs put together by Freeley there, definitely worth considering based on your requirements! The Intel spec is better, but of course is also more expensive. You just need to add a Blu-ray player to these.

Thanks very much both of you! The main problem is I don't know much about about what's 'good', so I'll read a bit further on the builds you just suggested. I would need a monitor, which one would you recommend? The resolution being 1080p ideally, although I've never had a computer - so unsure on the best sizes.
